PRE-CRASH SAFETY SYSTEM GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. Pre-Crash Safety (PCS) System

      1. The pre-crash safety system predicts the possible collision of the vehicle with an obstacle, based on information received from various sensors. The obstacle may be a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. PCS lessens the damage sustained in the collision by working in unison with other systems to optimize the characteristics of the occupant protection devices such as the seat belt retraction mechanism, and systems that dampen the impact of a collision, such as the brake control system.

      2. This system uses a millimeter wave radar sensor to predict a possible collision with a vehicle or obstacle in front. When specific operating conditions are met, the system will retract the seat belts before a collision and perform brake assist control and brake control.*

  2. PRECAUTION

    1. When the millimeter wave radar sensor detects an object in front of the vehicle under the following conditions, the driving support ECU may determine that a collision is unavoidable, and operate the pre-crash safety system. This does not indicate a malfunction.

    2. The millimeter wave radar sensor might not be able to detect the following objects as collision objects:

Objects that cannot be detected Plastic items (Safety Cones, etc.), etc.
Objects that cannot be detected in a stable manner People, Bicycles, Motorcycles, Trees, Animals, Snow Fence, etc.
