CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. The Controller Area Network (CAN) uses 2 different types of CAN buses:

      • The CAN No. 1 bus, CAN No. 2 bus, power management bus, powertrain bus and sensor bus are HS-CAN buses that operate at 500 kbps.

      • The CAN MS bus is an MS-CAN bus that operates at 250 kbps.

    2. Each CAN bus has 2 terminating resistors which are necessary for accurate judgment of communication.

    3. The terminating resistors for each bus are located as shown in the following table.

Speed Communication Bus Terminating Resistor Location
      High-speed (HS-CAN) CAN No. 1 Bus
      • ECM

      • Certification ECU (Smart Key ECU Assembly)

      CAN No. 2 Bus
      • Power Management Control ECU

      • CAN No. 5 Junction Connector

      Power Management Bus
      • Power Management Control ECU

      • ECM

      Powertrain Bus
      • ECM

      • TCM

      Sensor Bus
      • Driving Support ECU Assembly

      • Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor

      Medium-speed (MS-CAN) CAN MS Bus
      • Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU)

      • Multiplex Tilt and Telescopic ECU

    4. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) has a gateway function and is used to transmit data between the CAN No. 1 bus and the CAN MS bus.

    5. The power management control ECU has a gateway function and is used to transmit data between the power management bus, CAN No. 1 bus and CAN No. 2 bus.
