POWER WINDOW CONTROL SYSTEM DETAILS

  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

    1. The power window control system consists of the following parts:

      Component Function
Multiplex Network Master Switch Assembly Allows the driver to operate the power window system for the driver's door. It also allows the driver to operate the power window systems for the front passenger door and rear passenger doors.
Power Window Regulator Switch Assembly Located at the front passenger door and each of the rear passenger doors, this switch assembly allows the user to operate the power window system for the respective door.
Power Window Regulator Motor Assembly (For Driver Side)
      • Operates when receiving a motor drive request signal from the multiplex network master switch assembly.

      • The built-in Hall IC outputs pulse signals and the power window ECU determines a jammed state corresponding to the fluctuations in the output signals.

Power Window Regulator Motor Assembly (For Front Passenger and Rear Doors)
      • Operate when receiving motor drive request signals from the applicable power window regulator switch assembly.

      • The built-in Hall IC outputs pulse signals and the power window ECU determines a jammed state corresponding to the fluctuations in the output signals.

      • Operate when receiving motor drive request signals from the multiplex network master switch assembly.

Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) Transmits power window operation permission signals to each of the power window regulator motor assemblies through the LIN communication line.
  2. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. The power window control system has the following system control:

      System Control Outline
Manual Up-and-down (All Doors) The manual up-and-down function causes the window to open or close while the multiplex network master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly is being pulled halfway up or pushed halfway down. The window stops as soon as the switch is released.
One-touch Auto Up-and-down (All Doors) The one-touch auto up-and-down function enables the window to be fully opened or closed at a touch of the multiplex network master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly.
Variable Speed Control (All Doors) This control minimizes the occurrence of noise during the power window open/close operation by changing the operating speed of the power window motor.
Jam Protection (All Doors) The jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in the window during one-touch auto up operation or manual up operation.
Remote Control The up-and-down operations of the front passenger's door window and the rear door windows can be controlled by operating the multiplex network master switch assembly.
      Window Lock
      • Power window operation of the 3 passenger windows is disabled when the window lock switch is pressed.

      • Similarly, the power window illumination (LED) of the power window regulator switch assemblies, except the one for the driver door, are turned off to inform the occupants that the windows cannot be operated.

      • However, the power window can be operated through the multiplex network master switch assembly.

Key Off Operation This function enables the power window to be operated within approximately 43 seconds of the power switch being turned off. However, if either the driver door or front passenger door is opened within this 43 seconds, the power window operation will be disabled. The power window operation also stops immediately if the window is currently being operated when the 43 seconds have elapsed.

      Tech Tips

The ECU built into each power window motor stores the initial position of its door window. The initial position is not cleared even if the battery terminals, fuses or the power window motor connector are disconnected. However, after removing or reinstalling window components, or replacing the power window regulator sub-assembly or power window regulator motor, the stored initial position data must be cleared and/or initialization must be performed. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.

    2. Variable Speed Control

      1. Opening Power Window

        • In order to minimize the noise when the power window open function starts operating, the power window ECU accelerates the window opening speed up to a certain position.

        • In order to minimize the noise when the power window is opened fully, the power window ECU decelerates the window opening speed from a certain position.

      2. Closing Power Window

        • In order to minimize the noise when the power window close function starts operating, the power window ECU accelerates the window closing speed up to a certain position.

        • In order to minimize the noise when the power window is closed fully, the power window ECU decelerates the window closing speed from a certain position.

    3. Jam Protection Function

      1. The jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in the door window during one-touch auto up operation or manual up operation.

      2. If the window position from the full close position (amount it is open) is less than approximately 200 mm (7.9 in.) after the window has moved downward by approximately 125 mm (4.9 in.) or for approximately 2.5 seconds, the jam protection further moves the power window downward until the amount of open reaches approximately 200 mm (7.9 in.) or approximately 5 seconds have elapsed. However, if the power window is fully opened before the power window moves downward by approximately 125 mm (4.9 in.), this function stops.

      3. Switch signal inputs for manual up-and-down and auto up-and-down operations are prohibited while the jam protection is moving the power window downward. The switch signal inputs are permitted after the jam protection operation is completed.

      4. The magnet and Hall IC in the power window motor are used to enable power window jam protection.

      5. The Hall IC converts the changes in the magnetic flux that occur through the rotation of the magnet into pulse signals and outputs them to the power window ECU.

      6. To control the jam protection function, the ECU determines the amount of movement and jamming of the window glass based on the pulse signals from the Hall IC.

  3. FAIL-SAFE

    1. If the Hall IC in the power window motor malfunctions, some power window functions will be prohibited for the fail-safe mode. Each power window operates when the corresponding power window switch is fully pushed down or pulled up and held in that position.

  4. DIAGNOSIS

    1. When the power window ECU detects that there is an abnormality in the Hall IC which detects the position, speed and direction of the window, the ECU enters fail-safe mode. The power window illumination (LED) flashes to warn the user.
