MONITOR SYSTEM GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. Rear View Monitor System

      1. To assist the driver in parking the vehicle by monitoring the rear view, the monitor system has a rear television camera assembly mounted on the back.

      2. The monitor system consists of the rear television camera assembly, back-up light switch assembly*1, park/neutral position switch assembly*2 and radio and display receiver assembly.

  2. PRECAUTION

    1. Do not rely entirely on the monitor system. Use caution, as when backing up any vehicle.

    2. Never back up while looking only at the screen. The image on the screen may differ from the actual conditions. Backing up while looking only at the screen may cause a collision or an accident. When backing up, be sure to check by looking behind and all around the vehicle, both directly and using the mirrors, before proceeding.

    3. In the following cases, it may become difficult to see items in the image on the screen, but this does not indicate a malfunction:

      1. When it is dark (for example, at night).

      2. When the temperature near the lens is very high or low.

      3. When water droplets are present on the television camera assembly, or when humidity is high (for example, when it rains).

      4. When foreign matter (for example, mud or salt) is present on the television camera lens.

      5. When the sun or the beam of headlights is shining directly into the television camera lens.

      6. When the camera has scratches or dirt on it.

    4. When the system is used under fluorescent, sodium or mercury lights (or similar), the illuminations and the illuminated areas may appear to flicker.

    5. If a bright light (for example, sunlight reflected off the vehicle body) is picked up by the rear television camera assembly, the smear effect*, peculiar to a Charge Coupled Device (CCD) camera, may occur.

      Tech Tips

*: A phenomenon that occurs when a bright light is received by the rear television camera assembly, and transmitted to the screen, the light source will appear to have a vertical streak above and below it.
