THEFT DETERRENT

  1. FUNCTION

    1. The theft deterrent system has the following functions:

      Function Operation
Alarm When the theft deterrent system enters the alarm state, the warning items are operated for approx. 27.5 seconds.
      Security Indicator Light
      • When the state of the theft deterrent system enters the armed preparation or alarm state, the security indicator light is illuminated to inform the user.

      • This indicator is also the engine immobiliser indicator, and it blinks when the engine immobiliser is in an engaged state.

      Forced Door Lock

The main body ECU transmits a door lock signal to all the doors when all of the following conditions are satisfied:

      • The theft deterrent system is in the alarm state.

      • One of the doors has been unlocked.

      • No electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is detected in the actuation area.

The function stops when one of the following conditions is met:

      • All doors are locked.

      • The warning ends.

      • A electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is detected in the actuation area.

Panic Control* When the panic button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is pressed, the main body ECU operates the alarm function.

      • *: Models with panic alarm function

  2. CONSTRUCTION

    1. Theft Warning Radar Sensor

      1. An theft warning radar sensor is provided in the map light assembly.

      2. Glass breakage detection mode is used for the theft warning radar sensor. In glass breakage detection mode, the theft warning radar sensor changes to moving object detection mode when it detects that the glass has been broken. In moving object detection mode, when the movement of an intruder is detected in the vehicle interior, a warning signal is sent to the main body ECU.

      3. In glass breakage detection mode, the theft warning radar sensor receives ultrasonic waves generated when the glass has been broken, and moving object detection mode is changed to when the frequency of the ultrasonic waves received exceeds a predetermined level.

      4. In moving object detection mode, the theft warning radar sensor detects intruders by sending ultrasonic waves and detecting differences in the frequency of the reflected waves.

      5. The theft warning radar sensor, which is linked to the auto alarm system, sets automatically when the system transfers to the armed state (and the setting of the auto alarm is completed).

      6. When the theft warning radar sensor detects a moving object in the vehicle interior, the system transfers to the alarm state. Then, the system sounds the horn and security horn assembly intermittently and blinks the hazard warning light for approximately 27.5 seconds and performs a forced locking operation.

    2. Theft Warning Radar Sensor Cancel Switch

      1. A theft warning radar sensor cancel switch is provided in the map light assembly.

      2. When the system is in the disarmed state, pressing the theft warning radar sensor cancel switch can disable the function of the theft warning radar sensor.

    3. Tilt Sensor

      1. The tilt sensor is incorporated in the yawrate sensor located inside the front floor console.

      2. The tilt sensor detects the pitch angle of vehicle inclination using the 2 deceleration sensors. When the tilt sensor detects a change in the pitch angle of vehicle inclination, such as that caused by a thief attempting to tow the vehicle, it transmits the warning signal to the main body ECU.

      3. The main body ECU activates the tilt sensor when the system changes from the armed preparation state to the armed state. If a warning signal is input from the tilt sensor during the armed state, the ECU changes to the alarm state in order to output an alarm.

      4. When the system is in the disarmed state, pressing the theft warning radar sensor cancel switch can disable the function of the tilt sensor. If the system changes to the armed state, the tilt sensor will not activate. This function is canceled each time all doors are unlocked with the entry and start system, and is reinstated when the tilt senor is on.

        Tech Tips

Under the following conditions, if the vehicle tilts or if an increase in the vertical and horizontal movement of the vehicle is detected by the tilt sensor, an alarm may occur accidentally. To avoid accidental alarm activation, turn the tilt sensor off using the theft warning radar sensor cancel switch.

        • The vehicle is transported by ferry, trailer or train.

        • The vehicle is parked in a multi-story parking facility.

        • The vehicle is washed by a conveyor type car washing machine.

        • A tire has blown out.

        • The vehicle is jacked up for a tire or wheel change.

        • An earthquake occurs or the road subsides.

        • Equipment such as skis or snowboards are loaded or unloaded.

    4. Theft Warning Siren Assembly

      1. During normal operation, this siren sounds an alarm in accordance with the operation signal from the main body ECU. Because this siren has an internal battery, it can independently sound an alarm even if the vehicle's battery terminals are disconnected or if the wiring harnesses related to the system are cut.

  3. OPERATION

    1. The states of the theft deterrent system are as follows:

      State Description Theft Detection
Disarmed State A (Engine Hood and Luggage Compartment Door are Closed) The theft deterrent system has not been set by the user. Not possible
Disarmed State B (Engine Hood or Luggage Compartment Door is Open)
Armed Preparation State This is the preparation state before the theft deterrent system becomes active (enters the armed state) when the system has been set by the user. Not possible
Armed State The theft deterrent system is active (theft can be detected). Possible
Alarm State A theft attempt has been detected and the warning operation activates. Possible
