VEHICLE PROXIMITY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

    Item Function
Vehicle Approaching Speaker Controller Controls starting and stopping of operation, sound pitch and volume level based on signals received from ECU, sensor and switch.
Vehicle Approaching Speaker Assembly Emits warning sounds based on the operation signal received from the vehicle approaching speaker controller.
Shift Lock ECU Sends a shift lever P position state signal to the main body ECU.
Main Body ECU (Driver Side Junction Block)
    • Sends a shift lever P position state signal to the vehicle approaching speaker controller.

    • Sends an engine running signal to the vehicle approaching speaker controller.

Combination Meter Assembly Sends a vehicle speed signal to the vehicle approaching speaker controller.
Stop Light Switch Assembly Sends a brake pedal state signal to the luggage room junction block assembly.
Luggage Room Junction Block Assembly (Rear Junction Block ECU) Sends a brake pedal state signal to the vehicle approaching speaker controller.
Vehicle Approaching Speaker Switch The vehicle proximity notification system can be switched between operation permitted and stopped by switch operation.
  2. OPERATING CONDITION

    Item Function
    System Active

The vehicle proximity notification system operates (emits a warning sound) when either of the following conditions is met:

    • The vehicle speed is 0 km/h (0 mph) and the stop light switch assembly is off.*

    • The vehicle speed is 20 km/h (12 mph) or less.

    • The engine is stopped.

    • The vehicle approaching speaker switch is off.

    • The shift lever position other than P.

    System Stop

The vehicle proximity notification system stops operating when any of the following conditions is met:

    • The vehicle approaching speaker switch is on.

    • The engine starts

    • The vehicle speed is more than 25 km/h (16 mph).

    • With a vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph), the stop light on signal is received continuously for more than approx. 1 second.

    • With a vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph), the Shift lever position P state signal is received continuously for more than approx. 1 second.

    • With a vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph), the stop light off signal is received continuously for more than approx. 3 seconds. (such as when the vehicle is stopped, and in neutral with the parking brake applied).

    Tech Tips

*: When the system is stopped due to a vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph) and the stop light switch assembly off signal is received continuously for more than approximately 3 seconds, the system operates again when any of the following conditions is met:

    - A vehicle speed signal of 1 km/h (1 mph) or more is received.

    - The brake pedal is depressed.

    - The vehicle approaching speaker switch is operated.

  3. SYSTEM CONTROL

    Item Function
    Vehicle Speed Linked Control
    • Emits the warning sound by controlling the pitch of the sound in accordance with vehicle speed.

    • The warning sound becomes higher as the vehicle accelerates and it becomes lower as the vehicle decelerates.

Audibility Enhancing Control When the vehicle proximity notification system is not sounding and the vehicle is stopped (vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph)), if the system operates due to a vehicle speed signal or brake pedal operation (system is changed from being disabled to enabled), the warning sound volume becomes higher than usual for about 1 second to warn people around the vehicle that the vehicle may move.
Fade-in/Fade-out Control When the system starts operating, the warning sound volume gradually increases*, and when system operation is stopped, the sound volume gradually decreases.

    Tech Tips

*: When audibility enhancing control is performed, the system starts operating using this audibility enhancing control.

  4. CONSTRUCTION

    1. Vehicle Approaching Speaker Switch

      1. A vehicle approaching speaker switch, which stops operation of the vehicle proximity notification system by switch operation, is located in the lower portion of the instrument panel.

      2. The vehicle approaching speaker switch uses a momentary switch, and every time it is operated, the vehicle proximity notification system switches between operation permitted and stopped.

      3. When the system is stopped by switch operation, the vehicle approaching speaker controller illuminates the indicator light in the upper part of the switch to inform the driver that operation is stopped.

      4. Stop operation of the vehicle proximity notification system using the vehicle approaching speaker switch will be canceled when the power switch is turned off, and the next time the power switch is turned on (READY), notification operation will be performed.
