HEATED STEERING WHEEL SYSTEM

  1. OUTLINE

    1. A heated steering wheel system is used.

    2. This system consists of a heater wire that is placed inside the steering wheel.

    3. This system is activated by operating the steering heater switch and is controlled by the steering wheel heater control assembly.

    4. An auto function, which automatically turns on and off this system in accordance with the ambient temperature and cabin temperature when entering the vehicle, is provided. For the auto function, the air conditioning amplifier assembly judges operation and calculates operation time based on a cooler thermistor (ambient temperature sensor) signal and a cooler thermistor (room temperature sensor) signal, and sends an operation request to the steering wheel heater control assembly.

    5. When all of the following conditions are met and when the engine switch (push start switch) is turned on (IG), the heated steering wheel system is activated by the auto function:

      • The auto function is not set to off by customization.

      • The heated steering wheel system has been operated 0 times since the engine switch (push start switch) was turned on (IG).

      • The heated steering wheel system is off.

      • The operation time of the heated steering wheel system, which is calculated by the air conditioning amplifier assembly, is 0 minutes or more.

    6. When any of the following conditions is met, the heated steering wheel system is stopped:

      • The timer function of the steering wheel heater control assembly has activated (the system is turned off approximately 30 minutes after activation).

      • The steering heater switch is operated (the system continues to operate for at least approximately 1 minute after the switch is operated).

      • The operation time calculated by the air conditioning amplifier assembly has elapsed.

      • The auto function has been set to off by customization.

    7. The steering wheel heater control assembly uses the thermistor provided in the steering wheel to maintain the surface temperature of the steering wheel at approximately 37°C (99°F).

    8. The steering wheel heater control assembly contains a timer function that automatically turns off the heated steering wheel system after approximately 30 minutes even if the driver does not turn off the steering heater switch.

    9. When the steering wheel heater control assembly detects the following malfunction, the indicator light of the steering heater switch turns off.

      • An open or short in the thermistor continues for 2 seconds or more.
