General
A direct-sensing type tire pressure warning system is used. This tire pressure warning system receives tire pressure signals from all 5 tires.*
*: Models with full size spare tire (models with puncture repair kit have 4 tire pressure warning valve and transmitters).
When the tire pressure warning system detects that the tire pressure becomes lower than the warning threshold, it will turn on the tire pressure warning light and display a warning message on the multi-information display to warn the driver.
The tire pressure warning antenna receives the tire pressure, temperature, and ID code information from the 5 tire pressure warning valve and transmitters and transmits this information to the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver.*
*: Models with full size spare tire (models with puncture repair kit have 4 tire pressure warning valve and transmitters).
The tire pressure warning ECU and receiver monitors the tire pressure warning valve and transmitters to detect the low tire pressure of all 5 tires.*
*: Models with full size spare tire (models with puncture repair kit have 4 tire pressure warning valve and transmitters).
The operation of the tire pressure warning system includes a tire inflation pressure display function, warning function, initial check function, initialization function and diagnosis function.
The transmission cycle with which the information is sent from the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter to the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver is determined as follows based on the travel mode and the acceleration sensor built into each tire pressure warning valve and transmitter. Since the acceleration sensor is used only to determine if the vehicle is being driven, the value of rotational acceleration is not sent to the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver.
| Travel Mode | Transmission Cycle |
|---|---|
| While stopping*1 | 1 time / 1.5 min. |
| While traveling*2 | 4 times / 1 min. |
Tech Tips
*1: When G that is applied to the acceleration sensor is less than 8 G.
*2: When G that is applied to the acceleration sensor is 8 G or greater.
The warning threshold changes in accordance with pressure changes caused by driving conditions during initialization. Therefore, when a decreased tire pressure warning is displayed, the warning may not stop even though the tire pressure has been adjusted to the recommended pressure. At that time, initialization is necessary.

Function of Main Components
| Component | Function |
|---|---|
| Tire Pressure Warning Valve and Transmitter | Detects the pressure and internal temperature of the tire and transmits the measured value and the ID code to the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver via the tire pressure warning antenna. |
| Tire Pressure Warning Roof Antenna | Receives the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter signal and transmits this data to the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver. |
| Tire Pressure Warning Front Antenna | Receives the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter signal and transmits this data to the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver. |
| Tire Pressure Warning Reset Switch | The warning threshold is calculated from the tire pressure value at the time of initialization and memorized in the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver by operating the tire pressure warning reset switch. |
| DISP Switch | Switches the information on the multi-information display to the tire pressure when pressed. |
| Tire Pressure Warning ECU and Receiver |
|
| Main Body ECU (Cowl Side Junction Block LH) | Receives a signal from tire pressure warning ECU and receiver and outputs the signal to the combination meter via CAN communication. |
| Combination Meter | Transmits the vehicle speed signal to the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver. |

Diagnosis
If the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver detects a malfunction in the system, the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver will make the tire pressure warning light blink at 1 Hz for 1 minute and then remain on to warn the driver. It will also store the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in memory.
5-digit DTC can be read by connecting a Global TechStream (GTS) to the DLC3. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
Operation Precautions
The system will be disabled in the following conditions: (When the condition becomes normal, the system will work properly.)
If tires not equipped with the tire pressure warning valve and transmitters are used.
If the ID code on the tire pressure warning valve and transmitters are not registered in the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver.
If the tire pressure is 380 kPa (55 psi, 3.9 bar) or higher.
If the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter battery voltage drops. (Battery life: approximately 10 years)
The system may be disabled in the following conditions: (When the condition becomes normal, the system will work properly.)
If electronic devices or facilities using similar radio wave frequencies are nearby.
If a wireless device or other equipment operating at similar frequencies is in use in the vehicle.
If a window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed.
If there is a lot of snow or ice on the vehicle, in particular around the wheels or wheel housings.
If non-genuine wheels are used.
If tire chains are used.
If a tire repair sealant is used.
If the spare tire is in a location subject to poor radio wave signal reception.*
*: Models with full size spare tire
If a large metallic object which can interfere with signal reception has been put in the luggage compartment.*
*: Models with full size spare tire
The tire pressure warning system may not function properly if a tire repair sealant has been used to repair a flat tire. If this type of sealant has been used, the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter should be replaced with a new one after repairing or replacing the tire.
The tire pressure warning light may illuminate due to natural pressure loss caused by air passing through the tires or by changes in tire pressure caused by temperature fluctuations. When adjusting tire pressure, please be aware of the driving conditions and temperature conditions. The tire pressure warning light is prone to illuminate especially in late fall and during winter.
