OPERATING CONDITION
Daytime Running Light System
The daytime running light system is enabled when the conditions given below are met:
| Condition | Ignition switch is ON. |
| Light control switch off or AUTO position (when taillight is not being controlled by the automatic light control). | |
| Engine is running. |
Follow Me Home System
The follow me home system is enabled when the conditions given below are met:
| Condition | Ignition switch is off. |
| Light control switch off or AUTO position. | |
| Dimmer switch is pulled to flash headlights once. |
Automatic High Beam System (Models with Toyota Safety Sense)

FUNCTION
Light Automatic Turn-off System
When the ignition switch is turned off while the light control switch (TAIL or HEAD) is turned on, the headlights and fog light are turned off automatically. When the ignition switch is turned off while the light control switch is in the AUTO position, all lights are turned off automatically.
| Light control switch position | Outline |
|---|---|
| AUTO | While the lights (headlights, front fog lights, rear fog light and taillights) are turned on, this system automatically turns them off when the ignition switch is turned off. |
| HEAD | While the lights (headlights, front fog lights, rear fog light and taillights) are turned on, this system automatically turns off only the headlights and the front fog lights when the ignition switch is turned off. |
| TAIL |
After the light automatic turn-off system was activated, when the ignition switch is shifted from ON to off while the light control switch (HEAD) is turned on or is in the AUTO position, the battery saving function turns off the headlights and taillights automatically in approximately 20 minutes. In addition, when one of the doors is opened from the closed status or closed from the opened status, the accumulated time is reset and the lights turn off in approximately 20 minutes after the door was opened/closed.
The light automatic turn-off system is controlled by the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).
Light Reminder System
The light reminder system warns the driver using a buzzer when the meter ECU inside the combination meter assembly receives the driver's door courtesy light switch signal via the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) and the ignition switch is turned off and the door is opened with the taillights kept on. The buzzer is located inside the combination meter assembly.
| Light Control Switch Position | Ignition Switch | Door | Buzzer |
|---|---|---|---|
| TAIL, HEAD | Switch off | Open | Sounds |
| Closed | - |
Manual Headlight Beam Level Control System
The manual headlight beam level control system keeps the beam of the headlight adjusted. to the appropriate level in accordance with the number (weight) of passengers and volume of luggage.
The headlight beam level can be adjusted from 0 to 5 by operating the headlight leveling switch.

Automatic High Beam System (Models with Toyota Safety Sense)
When passing an oncoming vehicle:
The automatic high beam system turns off the high beams before an oncoming vehicle comes within approximately 800 m (2625 ft.).
When an oncoming vehicle passes out of pre-crash safety city sensor (monocular camera sensor) range, the automatic high beam system turns the high beams on after a short delay.
| *a | Approx. 800 m (2625 ft.) | *b | Delay |
| *c | Monocular Camera Sensor Angle | - | - |
Tech Tips
The detection distance varies depending on detected objects.
The timing of turning on and off the high beams varies depending on the intensity of oncoming (and preceding) vehicle lights.
When passing a preceding vehicle:
When approaching a preceding vehicle, the automatic high beam system turns off the high beams approximately 600 m (1968 ft.) before reaching it.
When a preceding vehicle passes out of pre-crash safety city sensor (monocular camera sensor) range, the automatic high beam system turns the high beams on after a short delay.
| *a | Approx. 600 m (1968 ft.) | *b | Delay |
| *c | Monocular Camera Sensor Angle | - | - |
Tech Tips
The timing of turning on and off the high beams varies depending on the intensity of the preceding vehicle lights.
CONSTRUCTION
Automatic High Beam System (Models with Toyota Safety Sense)
Pre-crash Safety City Sensor (Monocular Camera Sensor)
The pre-crash safety city sensor (monocular camera sensor) consists of a Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) camera that receives images and the mirror portion that identifies light sources and judges whether to use high beams or low beams.

Pre-crash Safety City Heater (Models with Pre-crash Safety City Heater)
The pre-collision city heater, which is installed between the pre-crash safety city sensor and windshield glass, is heated according to signals from the pre-crash safety city sensor in order to prevent the windshield glass on the front of the pre-crash safety city sensor from fogging, and also to remove fog buildup.
