1KR-FE Engine
The 1KR-FE engine is a 1.0-liter, 12-valve DOHC, in-line 3-cylinder gasoline engine.
This engine uses the Direct Ignition System (DIS), Variable Valve Timing-intelligent (VVT-i) system and Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent (ETCS-i). These systems achieve improved engine performance, quietness, fuel economy and clean emission.

This engine uses the Direct Ignition System (DIS), Dual Variable Valve Timing-intelligent (VVT-i) system, Direct Ignition System and Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent (ETCS-i). These systems achieve improved engine performance, fuel economy and clean emissions.

1ND-TV Engine
The 1ND-TV TOYOTA Direct injection 4-stroke common-rail Diesel (D-4D) engine is an in-line, 4-cylinder, 1.4-liter, 8-valve SOHC turbocharged diesel engine with intercooler.
This engine uses direct injection system and common-rail system to realize higher performance, good fuel consumption, clean emission, low noise and low vibration.
This engine comes in 2 models. One is a model with the oxidation catalyst that uses only an oxidation catalyst. The other is a model with the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) catalyst that uses an oxidation catalyst and a DPF catalyst.

Stop and Start System
On the 1NR-FE engines, the stop and start system has been developed to achieve low emissions and enhance fuel economy.
The stop and start system automatically stops the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop, such as when the vehicle stops at a red traffic light. When starting off, the engine is automatically restarted without requiring the driver to do anything extra.

A C551 5-speed manual transaxle is used on the models with 1KR-FE engine.

EC62 6-speed manual transaxle is used on the models with 1NR-FE engine.
EC65 6-speed manual transaxle is used on the models with 1ND-TV engine.
An EC65A 6-speed multi-mode manual transaxle is used with the 1ND-TV engine. The multi-mode manual transaxle is a manual transaxle with a clutch actuator assembly and shift and select actuator assembly. The operations of the clutch actuator assembly and shift and select actuator assembly are controlled by the TCM.

K411 Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
A K411 Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is used on the models with 1NR-FE engine.
The K411 CVT, including the pair of pulleys and the metal belt in the shift mechanism, is a transaxle which steplessly shift from start-up to the maximum speed offering a smooth shift feeling and excellent fuel economy.
