G-BOOK SYSTEM


  1. FUINCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS


    1. G-BOOK System

      Component Function
      Telephone Switch Assembly When the telephone switch assembly is pressed, a switch signal is sent to the DCM (telematics transceiver). (When a manual maintenance check or manual emergency call is performed.)
      LED Indicator Light* Green
      • Turns on when the system is under a service contract and operating normally within the service area.

      • Blinks during a call or a maintenance check and turns off when the system is malfunctioning.

      • Blinks when in diagnostic mode to indicate a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

      Red
      • Turns on when the vehicle is not within the service area.

      • Blinks when a call is made while the system is still malfunctioning.

      • Turns off when the system is operating normally.

      • Blinks when the back-up battery needs to be replaced.

      • Blinks when in diagnostic mode to indicate a DTC.

      Telephone Microphone Assembly
      • When the hands-free function is used: sends the microphone voice signal to the display and navigation module display.

      • When an emergency call is made: sends the microphone voice signal to the DCM (telematics transceiver).

      Telephone Antenna Assembly Sends and receives the data and voice signals used for the G-BOOK service through a communication network.
      DCM (Telematics Transceiver)

      Uses the telephone antenna assembly to send and receive the data and voice signals used for the G-BOOK service through a communication network.


      • When the operator service is used: sends a received voice signal to the display and navigation module display.

      • When the operator service is used: sends a sent voice signal the display and navigation module display, and to the telephone antenna assembly.

      • When an emergency call is made: sends a received voice signal to the vehicle speakers.

      • When an emergency call is made: receives a sent voice signal from the telephone microphone assembly.

      • When an emergency call is made: sends a mute signal to the stereo component amplifier assembly. (Mute function becomes active during the call.)

      • When an emergency call is made: sends the location information to the G-BOOK center.

      Back-up Battery (BUB)
      • The back-up battery is a lithium manganese dioxide non-rechargeable battery.

      • The battery condition is checked and the self-diagnosis result is sent to the display and navigation module display via the DCM (telematics transceiver).

      • The DCM (telematics transceiver) receives a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) indicating that the back-up battery is "malfunctioning", "deteriorated" or "not compatible", the DCM (telematics transceiver) blinks the red LED indicator light to inform the driver. The DCM (telematics transceiver) will also store a DTC.

      Navigation Antenna Assembly
      • Receives GPS radio waves and sends them to the display and navigation module display.

      • Transmits the vehicle location together with the emergency call.

      Main Body ECU (Driver Side Junction Block Assembly) Sends a security horn sounding signal to the display and navigation module display when the theft deterrent system is activated.
      Display and Navigation Module Display
      • Receives an image signal and displays the image on its screen.

      • Sends and receives the data used for the G-BOOK service to and from the DCM (telematics transceiver) using a telematics data signal.


        • When the operator service is used: sends the sent voice signal from the telephone microphone assembly to the DCM (telematics transceiver).

        • When the operator service is used: sends the received voice signal from the DCM (telematics transceiver) to the stereo component amplifier assembly.

        • the vehicle location information is periodically sent to the DCM (telematics transceiver).

        • When a warning comes on, the display and navigation module display receives a warning on signal from the combination meter assembly and the DCM (telematics transceiver) sends it to the G-BOOK center.

        • When the theft deterrent system is activated, the DCM (telematics transceiver) sends the G-BOOK center that the security horn has sounded.

      Stereo Component Amplifier Assembly

      Receives the received voice signal sent from the display and navigation module display and outputs it as sound from the vehicle speakers.

      (When the hands-free function is used.)

      Center Airbag Sensor Assembly

      Sends an activation signal to the DCM (telematics transceiver) when the airbags deploy.

      (An automatic emergency call is made.)

      Tech Tips

      *: The green and red indicator lights turn on for 5 seconds immediately after the engine switch is turned on (ACC).

  2. FUNCTION


    1. Emergency Call Service


      1. The emergency call service automatically makes a call to a G-BOOK center operator when airbags deploy in the event of an accident, in order to support prompt attendance by emergency personnel.

      2. In the event of trouble such as an accident or medical emergency, the telematics transceiver can be used to send the voice signal, location information and registered user information to the emergency call center.

      3. The emergency call service can be used either manually or automatically to contact the G-BOOK center.

        Call Method Operation Condition
        Automatic Call An automatic call is made if the airbags have deployed. The call occurs regardless of the condition of the occupants.
        Manual Call

        In the event of a medical emergency or an accident that does not cause the airbags to deploy, a manual call can be made by pressing the telephone switch assembly in the map light assembly.

        (To press the telephone switch assembly, the telephone switch assembly cover needs to be removed.)

      4. The emergency call service operation and contract conditions can be confirmed by accessing the G-BOOK center and performing the following maintenance checks:

        Automatic Maintenance Check The telematics transceiver automatically and periodically accesses the emergency call center to confirm if the user is still registered.
        Manual Maintenance Check The user can press the telephone switch assembly for 10 seconds or more while the green and red indicator lights are on immediately after the engine switch is turned on (ACC) to access the G-BOOK center and confirm that they are still registered.

        Tech Tips

        In the following cases, the emergency call service may not be available or the service quality may suffer.


        • The G-BOOK online service has not been established or the first manual maintenance check has not been completed.

        • Communication is interrupted due to a malfunction of the telematics transceiver or any other related device.

        • The location cannot be determined.

        • Communication is interrupted due to a service provider system malfunction.

        • Communication problems originate in the communication network used for the emergency call system.

        • The emergency call service is suspended or halted due to emergency call provider reasons.

        • Although a manual call is made, the situation cannot be confirmed because the user cannot respond to questions from the G-BOOK center.

    2. Theft Tracking Service


      1. The theft tracking service notifies the G-BOOK center that the alarm has operated when the theft deterrent system is activated.

      2. The G-BOOK center sends an e-mail message and makes a call to the user to notify them that the alarm has operated.

      3. In the event of a theft, the vehicle location can be tracked as requested by the user. If requested by the user, a G-BOOK operator will ask the authorities to find the stolen vehicle and take the case under their control.

    3. Remote Maintenance Service


      1. Remote maintenance mail and warning notifications are provided as part of the remote maintenance service.

      2. The remote maintenance mail is sent by the telematics transceiver to the G-BOOK center to provide information about the condition of the vehicle. The G-BOOK center then notifies the vehicle user about the inspection timing and maintenance notice.

      3. The warning notification is made by a signal indicating a system failure or malfunction, information about which is received by the combination meter assembly. This notification is sent by the telematics transceiver to the G-BOOK center. At the same time, the system checks whether or not diagnosis data has been recorded in each ECU, and if diagnosis data has been recorded, this information is then sent to the G-BOOK center.

      4. The G-BOOK center then notifies the vehicle user about the malfunction condition and how to cope with the problem based on the information received.

    4. Operator Service


      1. The operator service provides the user with a direct call to a G-BOOK center operator. The user can ask the operator to set a destination or send a POI facility search result to the navigation system.

      2. The operator service uses the telematics transceiver to make a call (it is not necessary to have registered a phone using the Bluetooth hands-free function).

    5. Browser Content Display Function (Information Service)


      1. Using the browser content display function built in the navigation system, the following contents can be displayed. If news content is displayed, headlines are read out to assist the driver in checking the content easily even while driving.

        Weather Forecast Displays and reads out the vehicle location, destination or weather forecast for the specified area.
        News Displays and reads out updates, society, sports and entertainment news.
    6. Navigation System Link Function


      1. The navigation system link function provides the navigation system with real-time information obtained from the G-BOOK center, offering more effective use of the navigation system for the user.

      2. The navigation system link function has the following functions:

        G Route Search Searches for the most suitable route to the destination based on information about wide-area traffic congestion prediction.
        Facility Information Display Displays information about facilities which are not included in the navigation system.
        G Information Mark Display Displays site information from the G-BOOK.com website.
        G Information Mark Linked Service After obtaining information from the G-BOOK center for a facility that has guidance information, the information is read aloud when the vehicle nears the location of the facility to which the adjacent guidance information applies.
    7. G Route Search


      1. The G-BOOK center calculates traffic congestion conditions based on driving conditions of vehicles equipped with G-BOOK to offer users probe communication traffic information. Such real-time traffic information can be obtained by using the G route search.

      2. The G route search function uses information about wide-area traffic congestion prediction (information about traffic around the present location, expressways and general roads) based on probe communication traffic information in order to search for the most suitable route to the destination.

        (3) Based on the traffic information sent from vehicles equipped with G-BOOK, the G-BOOK center sends traffic congestion information and information about a route that can be taken to avoid the traffic congestion.
