SYSTEM CONTROL
Jam Protection Function
To control the jam protection function, the sliding roof control ECU monitors the amount of movement and judges jamming of the sliding roof based on the pulse signals from the Hall IC1, and the moving direction of the sliding roof from the phase difference between the pulses from Hall IC1 and Hall IC2.
FUNCTION
The sliding roof system has following functions:
| Function | Outline |
|---|---|
| Manual Tilt Up | Tilts up each time the OPEN button on the moonroof switch is pressed for less than approximately 0.3 seconds. |
| Manual Open | Opens from the roof fully tilted up position each time the OPEN button on the moonroof switch is pressed for less than approximately 0.3 seconds. |
| Manual Close | Closes from the roof fully opened position each time the CLOSE button on the moonroof switch is pressed. |
| One-touch Auto Tilt Up | Fully tilts up when the OPEN button on the moonroof switch is pressed for approximately 0.3 seconds or more and less than 1.7 seconds. When the OPEN button on the moonroof switch is pressed for approximately 1.7 seconds or more in the tilt-up range, the sliding roof automatically opens after approximately 0.3 seconds since the sliding roof stopped in the fully tilted up position. |
| One-touch Auto Open | Fully opens from the roof fully tilted up position when the OPEN button on the moonroof switch is pressed for approximately 0.3 seconds or more. |
| Jam Protection | The jam protection function automatically stops the sliding roof and moves it open half way (or to the fully tilted up position) if a foreign object gets jammed in the sliding roof during close operation. |
| Key-off Operation | The key-off operation function makes it possible to operate the sliding roof for approximately 43 seconds after the power switch is turned to on (ACC) or off, if the front door is not opened. |
| Forced Close Function |
|
| Sliding Roof Open Warning | When the power switch is turned from on (IG) to off and the driver door is opened with the sliding roof open, the buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once. |
Tech Tips
The sliding roof control ECU memorizes the initial position of the sliding roof. This position may disappear from memory or a wrong position might be stored in memory due to some causes such as the disconnection of a battery terminal while the sliding roof is operating. When this occurs, the sliding roof will not operate correctly. For details, see the Repair Manual.
OPERATION
MOONROOF WITH SOLAR PANEL
The front glass panel moves in the tilt up-and-down direction, and the center glass panel moves in the tilt up and open-and-close directions.
The sliding roof motor uses a cable to simultaneously move the 2 (front and center) glass panels. The rear glass panel does not move.

CONSTRUCTION
SLIDING ROOF DRIVE GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY
The sliding roof ECU uses 2 Hall ICs to detect the position of sliding roof. The sliding roof ECU and the 2 Hall ICs are integrated in the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly.
