MANUAL TRANSAXLE SYSTEM GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. The EE53 5-speed manual transaxle is used.

    2. The differential is located forward of the input shaft, which contributes to making the vehicle compact.

    3. The gear shift indicator system is used.

  3. MAIN FEATURES

    1. The EE53 manual transaxle has improved the fuel economy by increasing the torque transmission efficiency, given excellent shift feeling and improved quietness as shown below.

      Feature Outline
Improvement of Fuel Economy by Increasing Torque Transmission Efficiency
      • A plastic pad is attached to the contact surface between the shift fork and the transmission hub sleeve.

      • An oil separator is used.

      • Low friction bearings are used.

      Excellent Shift Feeling
      • A triple-cone type and single-cone type are used for the transmission synchromesh mechanism.

      • A 2 step chamfer structure is used for No. 2 transmission hub sleeve (synchromesh mechanism for the 3rd and 4th gears).

      • The shift mechanism has been optimized.

      Superior Quietness
      • An optimum tooth profile is used for the gears.

      • The mating face of the front transaxle (MTM) case and manual transmission case has been changed to oval shape. Also a conical shape is used for the manual transmission case and the shape of ribs on the manual transmission case has been optimized. This reduces noise and vibration.
