STARTING SYSTEM GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. A planetary reduction type starter is used on the cold area specification models and a conventional type starter is used on other models.

    2. Cranking hold function is used. Once the engine switch is pushed, this control operates the starter until the engine starts.

  3. PRECAUTION

    1. Cranking hold function has following safety features:

      1. While the engine is running normally, the starter does not operate.

      2. Even if the driver keeps pressing the engine switch, the power management control ECU stops the output of the STAR and ACCD signals when the engine speed becomes higher than 1200 rpm. Thus, the starter operation stops and the power management control ECU energizes the ACC relay.

      3. In case the driver keeps pressing the engine switch and the engine does not start, the power management control ECU stops the output of the STAR and ACCD signals after 30 seconds have elapsed. Thus, the starter operation stops and the power management control ECU energizes the ACC relay.

      4. In case the power management control ECU cannot detect an engine speed signal while the starter is operating, the ECM will immediately stop the output of the STAR and ACCD signals. Thus, the starter operation stops and the power management control ECU energizes the ACC relay.
