1KR-FE Engine
The 1KR-FE engine is a DOHC 12-valve, 1.0-liter, in-line 3-cylinder gasoline engine.
This engine uses the DIS (Direct Ignition System), VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) system and ETCS-i (Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent). These systems achieve improved engine performance, fuel economy and clean emissions.

1NR-FE Engine
The 1NR-FE engine is a 1.3-liter, 16-valve DOHC, in-line 4-cylinder gasoline engine.
This engine uses the DIS (Direct Ignition System), dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) system and ETCS-i (Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent). These systems achieve improved engine performance, fuel economy and clean emissions.

1ND-TV Engine
The 1ND-TV TOYOTA D-4D (Direct injection 4 stroke common-rail Diesel) is an in-line, 4-cylinder, 1.4-litter, 8-valve SOHC turbocharged diesel engine with intercooler.
This engine uses direct injection system and common-rail system to achieve higher performance, good fuel consumption, clean emission, low noise and low vibration.
The engine for models in some areas uses a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) catalytic converter to improve the exhaust gas cleaning performance. Along, with the provision of the DPF catalytic converter, an EGR bypass switching valve and catalyst support control have been added.

Stop and Start System
On the 1NR-FE engines, the stop and start system has been developed to achieve low emissions and enhance fuel economy.
The stop and start system automatically stops the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop, such as when the vehicle stops at a red traffic light. When starting off, the engine is automatically restarted by simply depressing the clutch pedal, without requiring the driver to do anything extra.
K41A and K41B Continuously Variable Transaxles (CVT)
A K41A CVT is used with the 1KR-FE engine.
A K41B CVT is used with the 1NR-FE engine.
The K41A and K41B CVTs, including the pair of pulleys and the metal belt in the shift mechanism, are transaxles which steplessly shift from start-up to the maximum speed offering a smooth shift feeling and excellent fuel economy.
