POWER WINDOW CONTROL SYSTEM DETAILS

  1. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. The power window control system has the following functions:

      System Control Outline
Manual Up-and-down This function causes the window to open or close while the power window regulator master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly is being pulled halfway up or pushed halfway down. The window stops as soon as the switch is released.
One-touch Auto Up-and-down The one-touch auto up-and-down function enables the window to be fully opened or closed at a touch of the power window regulator master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly.
Jam Protection A jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in the window during one-touch auto-up operation or manual up operation.
Window Lock The operation of the front passenger door power window via the power window regulator switch can be disabled when the window lock switch provided on the power window regulator master switch is turned on (fully pressed). However, the power window can be operated through the power window regulator master switch.
Key Off Operation This function makes it possible to operate the power windows for approximately 43 seconds after the power source is turned off, if either front door is not opened. However, when the power window is closing or opening in the auto up or auto down function, the power window will not stop operating until it is fully closed or opened even when a front door is opened.

      Tech Tips

      • The power window motor assembly stores the initial position of each door window. The memory is not cleared if battery terminals, fuses or power window motor connectors are disconnected. However, the power window motor assembly needs to be initialized if it is replaced with a new one or it is reinstalled with the power window regulator assembly. When necessary, perform the initialization as follows:

      • Initialization after Reinstallation of the Power Window Regulator Motor Assembly

        • Connect the battery and turn the engine switch on.

        • Pull up the power window switch to the AUTO UP position and hold it until the window is fully closed.

        • Hold the power window switch in the AUTO UP position for at least 6 seconds after the window is fully closed.

        • Push down the power window switch until the window is fully opened.

        • Hold the power window switch for at least 1 second after the window is fully opened.

        • Release the switch once, push down the power window switch to the AUTO DOWN position again and hold it for at least 4 seconds.

        • Pull up the power window switch to the AUTO UP position and hold it until the window is fully closed.

        • Hold the power window switch in the AUTO UP position for at least 1 second after the window is fully closed.

        • Check that the power window switch illumination has changed from flashing to being illuminated.

        • Make sure that the window opens and closes automatically using the one touch function.

      • Initialization after Replacement of the Power Window Motor Assembly

        • Connect the battery and turn the engine switch on.

        • Check that the power window switch illumination blinks after the engine switch is turned on.

        • Push down the power window switch until the window is fully opened.

        • Hold the power window regulator switch for at least 1 second after the window is fully opened.

      • For details, refer to the Repair Manual.

    2. Jam Protection Function (Power Window System)

      1. A jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in the door window during one-touch auto up operation or manual up operation.

      2. If the window position from the full close position (amount it is open) is less than approximately 200mm after the window has moved downward by approximately 125mm or for approximately 2.5 seconds, the jam protection further moves the power window downward until the amount of open reaches approximately 200mm or approximately 5 seconds have elapsed. However, if the power window is fully opened before the power window moves downward by approximately 125mm, this function stops.

      3. Switch signal inputs for manual up-and-down and auto up-and-down operations are prohibited while the jam protection is moving the power window downward. The switch signal inputs are permitted after the jam protection operation is completed.

      4. The magnet and Hall IC in the power window motor assembly are used to enable power window jam protection.

        *3 Magnet (for rotation detection) - -
      5. The Hall IC converts the changes in the magnetic flux that occur through the rotation of the magnet into pulse signals and outputs them to the power window ECU.

      6. To control the jam protection function, the ECU determines the amount of movement and jamming of the window glass based on the pulse signals from the Hall IC.

  2. CONSTRUCTION

    1. The power window regulator assembly uses a wire type regulator without a guide. When compared to an X-arm type regulator, the wire type regulator without a guide reduces the weight, offers additional compartment space and increases the rotational stiffness.

  3. FAIL-SAFE

    1. If the hall IC in the power window motor malfunctions, the some power window functions will be prohibited for the fail-safe mode.

      1. Front door one-touch auto up-and-down function and the remote control functions are prohibited.

      2. Manual operation is possible by using each power window regulator master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly.

  4. DIAGNOSIS

    1. When the power window ECU detects the following conditions, diagnosis switches it to a fail-safe mode. The power window illumination (LED) flashes to inform the user.

      1. An abnormality in the hall IC that detects the position, speed and direction of the window.
