OUTLINE
An electric parking brake is used.
A Drive-Away Release (DAR) function is used on the models with manual transaxle.
MAIN FEATURES
The driver operates a switch to lock and release the electric parking brake, which minimizes the amount of driver effort needed to operate the parking brake.
The DAR function releases the parking brake automatically, thus assisting the driver's operation and improving convenience.
PRECAUTION
If the electric parking brake system fails for any reason other than mechanical locking, the user can release the parking brake manually. By inserting a dedicated tool (located onboard the vehicle) through a service hole in the luggage compartment, the user can rotate the emergency release cable to release the parking brake (for details, refer to the AVENSIS Owner's Manual). When performing this operation, pay attention to the following particulars:
Perform this operation on a flat surface.
Use wheel chocks to secure the vehicle.
Move the shift lever to P (models with automatic transaxle).
Move the shift lever to anything other than neutral (models with manual transaxle).
Turn the ignition switch or engine switch off before performing this operation.
Be sure to use only the dedicated tool located onboard the vehicle.
Insert the dedicated tool securely without letting it fall out.
Turn the emergency release cable fully clockwise as far as it will go.
Be sure to replace the seal covering the service hole if it is damaged.
Replace the parking brake with bracket actuator assembly if the seal covering the service hole has been damaged and water has leaked into the luggage compartment.
