Energy Absorbing Mechanism
The energy absorbing mechanism in the steering column consists of a lower bracket, break away bracket, and energy absorbing plate. During a collision of the vehicle, the steering column deforms the energy absorbing plate and rotates towards the front of the vehicle, with the lower bracket at the center. As a result, the impact to the driver can be reduced.
