SYSTEM CONTROL
The speedometer, tachometer and odo/trip meter
The speedometer, tachometer and odo/trip meter operate using the signals received from the CPU.
Fuel system warning light
In addition to the conventional fuel sedimenter warning functions, this light illuminates to inform the driver of a failure in case the clogging of the fuel filter is detected from the fuel filter warning switch.
The illumination conditions of this light vary depending on the functions indicated below.
| Function | Failure Activation |
| Fuel Filter Warning | Illumination |
| Fuel Sedimenter Warning | Blinking |
If a failure is detected simultaneously from the fuel sedimenter level switch and the fuel filter warning switch, the system gives precedence to the fuel sedimenter warning and causes the warning light to blink.
This system is controlled by meter ECU.

Fuel System Warning Light Illumination Condition and Reset
Fuel Sedimenter Warning
When the amount of water that has accumulated in the sedimenter reaches a predetermined level, the fuel sedimenter level switch, which is located in the bottom of the fuel filter, turns ON. The meter ECU renders this signal as a fuel sedimenter warning and causes the fuel system warning light to blink.
Fuel Filter Warning
The fuel filter warning switch is located in the upper area of the fuel filter.
To prevent false alarms on a cold engine, the meter ECU starts its judgment function with the ignition switch turned ON, after a total of 30 minutes have elapsed with the input of vehicle speed signal information (minimum vehicle speed of 2.5 km/h [1.6 mph]).
The fuel filter warning switch turns OFF when the vacuum in the fuel filter reaches a predetermined level.
The meter ECU illuminates the fuel system warning light when the OFF signal from the fuel filter warning switch meets either of the following conditions:
OFF signals from the fuel filter warning switch are input continuously for 10 minutes.
When the ignition switch is in the ON position, OFF signal (between 1 second and 10 minutes in duration) from the fuel filter warning switch is input twice with a minimum interval of 1 second.
Reset Fuel System Warning Light
When the fuel filter warning switch detects a failure, the meter ECU stores this failure in memory, and continues to illuminate* the fuel system warning light. Therefore, after replacing the fuel filter, the illumination information stored in the meter ECU memory must be erased through the following procedure:
With the ignition switch turned OFF, disconnect the fuel filter warning switch connector.
Turn the ignition switch from OFF to ON.
After more than 3 seconds but less than 60 seconds have elapsed, reconnect the connector.
After approximately 3 seconds have elapsed with the fuel filter warning switch ON, the system confirms the deletion of the illumination information by turning OFF* the warning light.
*: The fuel system warning light will blink in case of a sedimenter failure.
OPERATION
If the timing belt or the combination meter has been replaced, follow the procedures given below to set the timing belt warning system.
T-BELT mode display
Turn ODO/TRIP display screen to ODO, and turn the ignition switch OFF.
While pressing the trip switch, turn the ignition switch ON and hold it for 5 secs.
Release the trip switch, then press trip switch again within 5 secs.
Transfer to T-BELT mode, and following initial setting value is displayed.
km: 15 (0,000 km)
mile: 9 (0,000 mile)
Rewriting replacement setting value
Press the trip switch and rewrite the replacement setting value.
When pressing the trip switch, the displayed value is changed to 1 (0,000 km)/1 (0,000 mile) for the first time and after this, increases in increments of 1 (0,000 km)/1 (0,000 mile) up to 20 (0,000 km)/ 20 (0,000 mile). If switch operation is not performed for more than 30 secs, the setting value will not be changed, the display screen turns to "ODO", and the mode returns to the normal mode.
T-BELT mode completion
After setting the replacement setting value, hold the trip switch ON for more than 5 secs. then release the trip switch.
Check that the display has changed to "ODO" and warning light has gone OFF.
Note
If T-BELT mode is completed, even though belt replacement or meter replacement has not been performed, the T-BELT warning is reset.
