  1. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. Fixed Delay Type

      1. When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the preheating timer is activated and lights up the glow indicator light. It also turns on the glow plug relay. The glow plug relay causes current to flow to the glow plugs and the glow plugs quickly heat up.

      2. The preheating timer turns off the glow indicator light after a predetermined period of time, when the glow plug temperature rises to a high enough level to start the engine.

      3. After a predetermined period of time passes, the glow plug relay is turned off to prevent glow plug burnout.

      4. When the ignition switch is turned to the START position, the glow plug relay goes on regardless of the preheating timer. This prevents the temperature of the glow plugs from dropping during starting, thus improving startability.

      5. When the engine starts, the discharge warning light goes off. At this time, the preheating timer detects the signal from terminal L of the voltage regulator and turns off the glow plug relay to stop the heating of the glow plugs.

  2. CONSTRUCTION

    1. Glow Plug

      1. A glow plug that has a self-temperature control function, and which is made of a new metal, has been adopted.

      2. This glow plug has a built-in control coil that increases its resistance with the increase in the temperature of the glow plug. The increased resistance of the control coil then reduces the voltage that is applied to the thermal coil, a heating element that is connected in series to the control coil. In this manner, the glow plug itself provides the function to reduce its own temperature.

      3. The super glow system offers a simplified system configuration in which the glow plug resistor and glow plug sub-relay have been discontinued.
