ECD SYSTEM GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. The engine control system of the 1KD-FTV engine has the following systems.

      System
      Fuel Injection Volume Control
      Fuel Injection Timing Control
      Fuel Pressure Control
      Pilot Injection Control
      During Starting Control
      Idle Speed Control
      Glow Plug Control
      Throttle Control
      Swirl Control
      Turbocharger Control
      EGR Control
      Charging Control*1
      Oil Maintenance Management System*2
      Diagnosis
      Fail-safe

      • *1: Models with 2 Batteries

      • *2: for Europe

  2. MAJOR DIFFERENCE

    1. The major differences between the 1KD-FTV engine mounted in the previous Dyna 100/150 and the 1KD-FTV in the new Dyna 100/150 European models are as follows.

      1. Air Flow Meter

        • The air flow meter has been changed. Its installation position and function are the same as in the previous model.

        • As with the previous model, the air flow meter has a built-in atmospheric temperature sensor.

      2. Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor

        • The accelerator pedal position sensor has been changed.

      3. Fuel Injection Volume Control

        • Small injection volume correction control and extensive intra-cylinder injection volume correction control have been added to the fuel injection volume control. With the implementation of these injection volume correction controls when the engine ECU calculates the basic injection volume, more accurate fuel injection control has been realized.

      4. Oil Maintenance Management System

        • The oil maintenance management system has been simplified by incorporating the functions of the monitor ECU (bulb check function, oil change reminder function, etc.) into the combination meter (meter ECU).

        • The maintenance interval, which is indicated by the oil maintenance management system, has been changed. The oil maintenance management system uses the engine oil change reminder light to inform the driver of the oil change timing, as follows:

Level 1: After the ignition switch has been turned to ON, the engine oil change reminder light blinks briefly, and then goes off.
Level 2: The light remains illuminated while the ignition switch is in the ON position.
        • The engine oil change reminder light reset switch and the ODO/TRIP switch have been combined. Accordingly, the procedure for resetting the counter has changed.

      5. Fail-safe

        • A non-contact type accelerator pedal position sensor is used. Accordingly, the accelerator pedal position sensor fail-safe function has been added. For details of the fail-safe chart, see the Repair Manual.

      6. Diagnosis

        • In accordance with the changes to the engine control system, some DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) have been added and others have been changed. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
