WORK NOTICES AND PRECAUTIONS WHEN REPAIRING THE PAINT OF VEHICLE

  1. HIGH PERFORMANCE CLEAR COATING

    1. Self-restoring coat/Scratch resistance clear coat

      1. Introduction

"Damage" applies stress to the coating, breaking down or deforming the coating. In order to improve scratch resistance, there are two methods: (A) harden the coating film to prevent damage, or (B) make the paint film soft with high elasticity to restore deformation. From a viewpoint of chipping resistance and repairability, (B) type coating are generally used as standard for automotive coating.

        *c Primer *d Electro Deposition
*e A few μm *f Recovery due to Coating Elasticity(Spring)

        Tech Tips

The elasticity of the coating allows the coating to absorb force applied to the surface of the coating which causes the coating to deform and also restores the coating to its original shape, thereby making it more difficult for the coating to be damaged.

      2. Characteristics

        B003HVSC02
        *A Self-restoring coat (Two-Component Cross-linking Urethane) *B Scratch resistance clear coat (One-Component Cross-linking Acid-epoxy)
        *a Clear *b Base
        *c Primer *d Electro Deposition
*e Specifically Designed for Strong Elasticity *f Low Elasticity
        *g Acid Rain *h Sunlight
*i Time *j High and stable elasticity which maintains the initial coating structure and makes the scratch resistance last longer
*k Elasticity Deteriorates and Scratch Resistance Decreases - -

        Tech Tips

Through the use of this high-performance polymer, the characteristics present when the vehicle is new (scratch resistance, luster, sheen, etc.) last for a long time.

    2. Recommended clear coating for repairs

      • The use of the recommended clear coating in order to maintain the characteristics of the clear coating used for new vehicles. Please contact the manufacturer of the clear coating being used for details on performing repairs.

      • If repairs are performed using not recommended clear coating, there may be noticeable differences over time in the scratch resistance of the coating applied at the factory and the coating used for repairs.

      • Self-restoring coat and Scratch resistance clear coat, the polish abrasiveness after drying is almost equal.

    3. Repair procedures

      • Depending on the manufacturer, each clear coating will have different application procedures and points to keep in mind. Therefore, contact the manufacturer of the clear coating being used for details on performing repairs.

  2. POOR HIDING COLOR

    1. Poor hiding color

      • Hinding refers to the performance of the top coating concealing the bottom color and depends on the type and mixing ratio of the resin and pigment used in the primary color paint.

      • Hinding for general colors used for Toyota vehicles can generally be maintained using the standard coating thickness. However, for some vivid red and yellow tones there are some paint colors with poor hinding and the hinding performance cannot be maintained using the standard coating thickness.

      • When repairing with such a paint color, either increase the number of top coating applications or, apply a dedicated under color and then apply the topcoat. As a result, the repair time will be longer than when using a general paint color.
