WORK NOTICES AND PRECAUTIONS PRECAUTIONS FOR SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM


  1. HANDLING OF A VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN DAMAGED IN A COLLISION


    1. Refer to the LEXUS Repair Manual for the SRS airbag system inspection procedures.

    2. If impacts are likely to occur to the front airbag sensors, side airbag sensor assemblies, rear airbag sensors, door side airbag sensors, seat position airbag sensor, or airbag ECU assembly remove each sensor as necessary beforehand.

    3. Do not allow the front airbag sensors, door side airbag sensors, side airbag sensor assemblies, rear airbag sensors, seat position airbag sensor, or airbag ECU assembly to become heated to high temperatures.

    4. Check the wire harnesses and connectors for damage and/or melting, as some areas of the airbags and seat belt pretensioners may heat up to several hundred degrees when they operate.

  2. PRECAUTIONS FOR USING ELECTRIC WELDER


    1. Check the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).


      1. If one or more DTCs are displayed:


        • Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.

        • Disconnect all the malfunctioning circuit connectors.

        • Disconnect the airbag ECU assembly connector.

      2. If DTCs are NOT displayed:


        • Inspect for damage to the electric wiring harnesses and connectors.

        • Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.

        • Disconnect the airbag ECU assembly connector.

  3. DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (PRESSURE SENSOR) DESCRIPTION


    1. A door side airbag sensor is installed to the center of the front door.

    2. The sensor detects pressure changes between the door outer and door inner according to deformation of the door panel.

    3. The door side airbag sensor (pressure sensor) and side airbag sensor (G sensor) perform ignition judgement using AND circuits for improved side airbag deployment.

  4. PRECAUTIONS WHEN REPAIRING BODY

    1. Ensure the front door outer and door inner are airtight.

    2. Apply masking tape to the door side airbag sensor to prevent the entry of foreign matter.

      Note


      • Decreased airtightness between the front door outer and door inner may affect detection performance.

      • Use large, clearly visible pieces of masking tape to prevent tape from being left on the sensor after the procedure.

      • If there are gaps in the seal surface or the cone is damaged, replace it with a new one.
      Belt moulding

      • If there are gaps in the seal surface or the lip is worn or cracked, replace it with a new one.

      • Do not reuse a removed belt moulding.

      • If there are gaps in the seal surface or the lip is worn or cracked, replace it with a new one.
      Front door

      • If a door panel has holes or cracks, repair or replace it. (If damage has spread to the impact beam, replace it with a new one)

      • If the installation areas of parts important for airtightness are damaged or deformed, repair or replace them.

      • Before performing work, apply masking tape to the air inlet (B) of the door side airbag sensor to prevent the entry of foreign matter. (such as paint, dust and pieces of glass)

      • Keep the spray or vacuum cleaner nozzle away from the sensor. Otherwise, it may be damaged.
