  1. CONSTRUCTION


    1. Air Cleaner Assembly


      1. An air cleaner element with an outer frame is used.

      2. A paper type air cleaner element is used.

      3. On the models for Korea, a carbon filter, which adsorbs the HC that accumulates in the intake system when the engine is stopped, is used in the air cleaner cap sub-assembly in order to reduce evaporative emissions. The carbon filter, which is maintenance-free, cannot be removed from the air cleaner cap sub-assembly.

    2. Throttle Body


      1. A linkless-type throttle body in which the throttle position sensor and the throttle control motor are integrated is used, it achieving excellent throttle valve control.

      2. The throttle control motor uses a DC motor with excellent response and minimal power consumption. The ECM performs duty ratio control of the direction and the amperage of the current that flows to the throttle control motor in order to regulate the throttle valve angle.

    3. Intake Air Surge Tank


      1. The intake air surge tank is made of plastic to achieve a lightweight construction.

      2. The intake air surge tank consists of upper and lower sections and contains an intake air control valve. This valve is activated by Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) and is used to alter the intake pipe length to improve the engine performance in all speed ranges.

      3. The ACIS actuator uses an electric actuator and is laser-welded onto the intake air surge tank. Many of the components are made of plastic for weight reduction.

        Tech Tips

        Laser-welding: In laser-welding, a laser-absorbing material (intake air surge tank) is joined to a material that allows the laser light to pass through (ACIS actuator). Laser beams are then transmitted from the ACIS actuator side. The beams penetrate the ACIS actuator material to heat and melt the surface of the laser-absorbing material. Then, the heat of the laser-absorbing material melts the ACIS actuator material and causes both materials to become welded.

    4. Intake Manifold


      1. A lightweight aluminum alloy is used for the intake manifold.

      2. The intake manifold to head gaskets have a rubber coating applied to their surfaces. They provide superior durability.

      3. A Swirl Control Valve (SCV) is provided in the intake manifold to stabilize combustion while the coolant temperature is low. The valve is operated (opened or closed) to achieve higher engine torque output at low engine speeds.
