SPIRAL CABLE REMOVAL

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.

  • The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.


  1. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly Click here.

  2. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

    Note

    Removing the steering column cover in an incorrect order will cause the steering column cover to break.


    1. A01INOE

      Push the right and left sides of the lower steering column cover and detach the 4 claws.

    2. A01IQDF

      Insert fingers into the opening of the tilt lever of the lower steering column cover to detach the claw.

      Tech Tips

      Spread the claw to detach it.

    3. A01IQ3E

      Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws.

    4. Turn the steering column lower cover and remove the lower steering column cover as shown in the illustration.

  3. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER


    1. A01INOZ

      Detach the claw and 2 pins, and remove the upper steering column cover.

  4. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A01ITGQ

      Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable.

      Note

      When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    2. Detach the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable.

      Note


      • Do not replace the spiral cable sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.

      • Do not rotate the spiral cable when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.

      • Make sure the steering wheel is installed and centered before rotating the steering angle sensor when performing steering angle sensor operation inspections (inspecting for abnormal noise, diagnosis inspections, etc.).

      • Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral cable.
