Note
Initialize the height control sensor signal after the vehicle height changes due to replacement of the suspension or after performing such operations as removal and reinstallation or replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly.
Initialization is also necessary when the headlight leveling ECU is replaced.
Adjust the headlight aim after initializing the headlight leveling ECU Click here for Halogen, Click here for HID).
When a malfunction is detected in the automatic headlight beam level control system, the height control sensor signal initialization is impossible. Perform troubleshooting before initialization.
HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SIGNAL INITIALIZATION (WHEN NOT USING INTELLIGENT TESTER)
PREPARE VEHICLE FOR INITIALIZATION
Make sure that approximately 10 liters (10.6 US qts, 8.8 Imp.qts) of fuel is in the tank.
Unload the trunk and vehicle, and make sure that the spare tire, tools and jack are in their original positions.
Check that there are no occupants in the vehicle.
Turn off the headlights.
Stop the vehicle on a level surface and keep the vehicle height unchanged.

CHECK WARNING LIGHT
Turn the ignition switch to ON and check the headlight beam level control system warning light.
| OK | ||||||

|
Tech Tips
If the warning light does not come on when turning the ignition switch to ON, perform inspections and repairs according to "Problem Symptoms Table" Click here.
If there is a problem with the initialized data memorized in the headlight leveling ECU, the warning light blinks 6 times at 2 Hz when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

INITIALIZATION
Connect terminals 4 (CG) and 8 (LVL) of the DLC3 using SST.
Flash the low beam headlights 3 times within 20 seconds with the light control switch after connecting the terminals.
Note
Turn the low beam headlights on and off at approximately 1-second intervals.
Be sure to operate the light control switch from the outside of the vehicle.
Check the warning light.
| OK | ||||||

|
Tech Tips
If the calculated vehicle height is not within the acceptable range, the height control sensor initialization will end as an abnormal termination, and the warning indicator will blink 6 times at 2 Hz continuously. Disconnect SST from the DLC3 and turn the ignition switch off. Then restart from "Check Warning Light".
If initialization cannot be finished normally, check the LVL terminal circuit Click here, or perform inspections and repairs according to "Problem Symptoms Table" Click here.

HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SIGNAL INITIALIZATION (WHEN USING INTELLIGENT TESTER)
Tech Tips
When performing initialization of the headlight leveling ECU using the intelligent tester, starting initialization is possible without lowering the fuel amount to below 10 liters (10.6 US qts, 8.8 Imp.qts).

INITIALIZATION
Turn the ignition switch off.
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and push the intelligent tester main switch on.
Enter the following menus: Body / HL Auto Leveling / Utility / Height Sensor Initialization / Next.
Check what is displayed on the screen of the intelligent tester and press "Next".
Check the fuel level of the fuel receiver gauge in the combination meter. The appropriate position ID is determined by the present fuel level.
| Fuel Level | Position ID |
|---|---|
| Fuel level is within range A. | FULL to over 3/4 |
| Fuel level is within range B. | 3/4 to over 1/2 |
| Fuel level is within range C. | 1/2 to over 1/4 |
| Fuel level is within range D. | 1/4 to over EMPTY |
| Fuel level is within range E. | EMPTY |
Enter the determined position ID into the intelligent tester and press "Next".
Tech Tips
If the position ID has not been entered, "Next" cannot be pressed.
