PRE-HEATING SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

Note

Turn the ignition switch off for 60 seconds before performing the following inspections.

  1. INSPECT ILLUMINATION DURATION OF GLOW INDICATOR LIGHT (for DPF)

    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and measure the duration of time that the light remains illuminated.

      Light illumination duration
Refer to the table and graph
      Standard Light Illumination Time
      Engine Coolant Temperature Specified Condition
      -20°C (-4°F) 2.0 to 3.0 seconds
      -15°C (5°F) 1.0 to 2.0 seconds
      0°C (32°F) 1.0 seconds
      35°C (95°F) 0.45 to 1.0 seconds

If the result is not as specified, check the ECM, glow plug controller, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plugs and glow plug relay.

  2. INSPECT ILLUMINATION DURATION OF GLOW INDICATOR LIGHT (for CCo)

    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and measure the duration of time that the light remains illuminated.

  3. INSPECT PRE-HEATING (for DPF)

    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and measure the length of time that battery voltage is applied to the glow plugs.

      Standard Pre-heating Time
      Condition Pre-heating Time
Battery voltage at 14.5 V or higher 1 second
Battery voltage at 14.5 V or less

      Refer to the graph*1
