ECD SYSTEM (for Swirl Control Valve), Diagnostic DTC:P1473, P1476

DTC Code DTC Name
P1473 Fault Path for Long Time Drift
P1476 Swirl Valve Broken Lever Detection

DESCRIPTION

Refer to DTC P2016 Click here.

The position deviations of the current measurement for the swirl control valve and a new swirl control valve with open and closed swirl flaps is calculated in the adaptation phase.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P1473

The fault is detected if one of these position deviations exceeds the relevant long-term drift limit value (for open swirl flaps: 18%, for closed swirl flaps: 9%).

(3 trip detection logic)

Swirl control valve
DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P1476

The fault is detected when the signal voltage of the position feedback drops below the limit value (0.49 V) that displays the internal limit position of the direct current motor for 1.5 seconds.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

After replacing the swirl control valve, the ECM needs initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK SWIRL CONTROL VALVE

    1. Check for soot deposits inside the swirl control valve.

      OK
      No soot deposits.

      Tech Tips

      • If soot deposits are found, clean the swirl control valve.

      • If cleaning does not remove the soot deposits, replace the swirl control valve.

    2. Check for the operation mechanism of the swirl control valve for damage such as link deformation.

      OK
      No damage.
    3. Check operation.

      1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

      3. Start the engine.

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Actuator Test of Swirl Flap / Data List / Swirl Valve Actuator Position.

        OK
The value of "Swirl Valve Actuator Position" changes according to the amount "Actuator Test of Swirl Flap" is operated, and the swirl flap operates smoothly.
