ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P1016

DTC Code DTC Name
P1016 One of the Air Temperature Sensors

DESCRIPTION

The ECM compares the values from each temperature sensor for appropriateness once per driving cycle during a cold start.

DTC P1016 is output when multiple values are determined to be inappropriate and the malfunctioning sensor cannot be determined.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P1016

When multiple temperature sensor values are compared and determined inappropriate, and inappropriate sensor cannot be determined for 0.05 seconds or more

(3 trip detection logic)

  • Intake air temperature sensor

  • Intake air temperature sensor (built into mass air flow meter)

  • Exhaust gas temperature sensor (for sensor 1)

  • Exhaust gas temperature sensor (for sensor 2)

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

  • When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs Registration and Initialization Click here.

  • After replacing the mass air flow meter, the ECM needs initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initialization/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the tester display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P1016)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    4. Read the DTCs.

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P1016 A
DTC P1016 and other DTCs B

      Tech Tips

If any DTCs other than P1016 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS (INTAKE AIR, INTAKE AIR TEMP (TURBO), EXHAUST TEMPERATURE B1S1 AND EXHAUST TEMPERATURE B1S2)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Intake Air, Intake Air Temp (Turbo), Exhaust Temperature B1S1 and Exhaust Temperature B1S2.

    4. Read the value.

      OK
      Proper values are displayed.

      Tech Tips

Check the values and confirm the items to be replaced.
