DESCRIPTION

DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Drive vehicle at high speed or with heavy load (Use freeze frame data from time malfunction occurred as reference while driving)

All of following conditions are met (1 trip detection logic):


  • The engine speed is more than 1400 rpm.

  • The vehicle speed is more than 10 km/h (6.25 mph).

  • The fuel temperature is 110°C (230°F) or higher for 1 second or more.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note:

After replacing the supply pump assembly, the ECM needs initialization (Click here).

Tip:

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. Click here

    CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0168)


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

    4. Read the DTCs.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0168 is output A
      DTC P0168 and other DTCs are output B
      Tip:

      If DTCs other than P0168 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.


  2. Click here

    CHECK SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY


    1. Perform a visual inspection of the exterior of the supply pump assembly and check that there are no fuel leaks.

      OK
      There are no fuel leaks or stains.

  3. Click here

    REPLACE FUEL FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Replace the fuel filter element sub-assembly (Click here).


  4. Click here

    REPLACE SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY


    1. Replace the supply pump assembly (Click here).


  5. Click here

    BLEED AIR FROM FUEL SYSTEM


    1. Bleed the air from the fuel system (Click here).


  6. Click here

    PERFORM SUPPLY PUMP INITIALIZATION


    1. Perform supply pump initialization (Click here).


  7. Click here

    CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Start the engine.

    3. Turn the tester on.

    4. Clear the DTCs (Click here).

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Fuel Temperature.

    6. Drive the vehicle in a city area and check that the value of Fuel Temperature does not exceed 110°C (230°F).
