SFI SYSTEM Fuel Injector Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The fuel injectors are located on the intake manifold. They inject fuel into the cylinders based on the signals from the ECM.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK FUEL INJECTOR (POWER SOURCE)

      Disconnect the fuel injector connectors.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C13-1 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C15-1 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C17-1 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C19-1 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.

    5. Reconnect the fuel injector connectors.

  2. INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR


    1. Inspect the fuel injector Click here.

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL INJECTOR - ECM)


    1. Disconnect the fuel injector connectors.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-2 - C68-86 (#10) Always Below 1 Ω
      C15-2 - C68-85 (#20) Always Below 1 Ω
      C17-2 - C68-84 (#30) Always Below 1 Ω
      C19-2 - C68-83 (#40) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-2 or C68-86 (#10) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C15-2 or C68-85 (#20) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C17-2 or C68-84 (#30) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C19-2 or C68-83 (#40) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the fuel injector connectors.

    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION RELAY - FUEL INJECTOR)


    1. Disconnect the fuel injector connectors.

    2. Remove the integration relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-1 - 1B-8 Always Below 1 Ω
      C15-1 - 1B-8 Always Below 1 Ω
      C17-1 - 1B-8 Always Below 1 Ω
      C19-1 - 1B-8 Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-1 or 1B-8 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C15-1 or 1B-8 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C17-1 or 1B-8 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C19-1 or 1B-8 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the integration relay.

    5. Reconnect the fuel injector connector.

  5. INSPECT INTEGRATION RELAY (IGT/INJ)

      (Integration Relay)

      Remove the integration relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

    2. Disconnect the integration relay connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1C-1 - 1B-8 Battery voltage not applied to terminals 1B-6 and 1B-7 10 kΩ or higher
      Battery voltage applied to terminals 1B-6 and 1B-7 Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the integration relay connector.

    5. Reinstall the integration relay.

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION RELAY - INTEGRATION RELAY)


    1. Remove the integration relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1B-4 - 1B-6 Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1B-4 or 1B-6 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    3. Reconnect the integration relay connector.

    4. Reinstall the integration relay.

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION RELAY - BODY GROUND)


    1. Remove the integration relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

    2. Disconnect the integration relay connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1B-7 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the integration relay connector.

    5. Reinstall the integration relay.
