PARKING ASSIST MONITOR SYSTEM (w/ Side Monitor System) SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. GENERAL

    1. This system has a rear television camera assembly mounted on the back door to display the rear view of the vehicle on the multi-display assembly. The display panel also shows a composite view consisting of the area behind the vehicle and parking guidelines to assist the driver in parking the vehicle by monitoring the area behind the vehicle.

    2. This system consists of the following components:

      1. Parking assist ECU

      2. Rear television camera assembly

      3. Multi-media module receiver assembly

      4. Multi-display assembly

      5. Spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly

      6. Power back door unit assembly

      7. Skid control ECU assembly

      8. Back door lock assembly

      9. Power management control ECU

      10. Main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU)

    3. This system is equipped with a self-diagnosis system, which is operated on a designated window that appears on the display panel, just as in the navigation system.

  2. FUNCTION OF COMPONENTS

    1. The parking assist ECU controls the system by using information from the following components.

      Item Function
      Rear Television Camera Assembly
      • Mounted on the back door to transmit the rear view of the vehicle to the parking assist ECU.

      • A color video camera that uses a Charge Coupled Device (CCD) and a wide-angle lens.

      Parking Assist ECU
      • Receives video signals, which contain an image of the area behind the vehicle taken with the rear television camera assembly.

      • Performs overall control of the system by receiving signals from the sensors.

      • Store the adjustment values while performing parking assist monitor system calibration.

      • Creates images and displays adjustment screens performed on the diagnosis screen.

      • Stops displaying the guide line and buttons displays "Check surrounding for safety" when an open signal is received for the back door.

      • Displays "Back door is open" on the back camera position setting screen when an open signal is received for the back door and stops the back camera position setting.

Multi-media Module Receiver Assembly Allows operation via the remote touch when the parking assist monitor screen or diagnosis screen is displayed.
Multi-display Assembly Receives the video signals containing a composite of the rear view of the vehicle and parking assist guideline signals from the parking assist ECU, and displays them on the display panel.
Spiral Cable with Sensor Sub-assembly Detects the angle of the steering wheel and sends the resulting signals to the parking assist ECU through CAN communication.
Power Back Door Unit Assembly Sends the back door courtesy light switch signal to the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) through CAN communication.
Skid Control ECU Assembly Sends the vehicle speed signal to the parking assist ECU through CAN communication.
Back Door Lock Assembly Detects the back door status and sends that signal to the power back door unit assembly.
Power Management Control ECU Sends the shift position signal to the parking assist ECU through CAN communication.
Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) Sends the back door courtesy light switch signal to the parking assist ECU through CAN communication.
  3. OPERATION EXPLANATION

    1. The reverse signal is sent from the power management control ECU to the parking assist ECU when the shift lever is moved to R.

    2. In parallel parking assist mode, an appropriate steering angle and timing information can be provided for the driver. This is based on the information from the steering angle sensor signal and the vehicle angle data signal that are sent to the parking assist ECU.

      Tech Tips

The steering angle sensor signal is used to control parking assist for only estimated guide line mode.

  5. COMMUNICATION SYSTEM OUTLINE

    1. The components of the parking assist monitor system communicate with each other through the AVC-LAN. Also, parallel parking assist mode judges the vehicle angle data transmitted via the AVC-LAN from the multi-media module receiver assembly (the data is calculated by the multi-media module receiver assembly by integrating the yaw rate of the gyro sensor built into the multi-media module receiver assembly).

    2. If a short circuit or open circuit occurs in the AVC-LAN, communication is interrupted and the parking assist monitor system will stop functioning.

  6. DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION OUTLINE
