VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION

  1. INSTALL MANUAL VALVE

    1. Coat the manual valve with ATF.

    2. Install the manual valve into the transmission valve body.

  2. INSTALL TRANSAXLE CASE GASKET

    1. Coat 2 new transaxle case gaskets with ATF.

    2. Install the 2 transaxle case gaskets onto the transaxle case.

  3. INSTALL TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY

      *a Positioning Bolt

      Coat the O-ring of the transmission wire with ATF.

    2. Insert the pin of the manual valve lever into the groove on the end of the manual valve and install the transmission valve body onto the automatic transaxle with the 11 bolts.

      Bolt Length
      Bolt Length [mm (in.)]
      A 25 (0.984)
      B 30 (1.18)
      C and D 35 (1.38)
      Torque:
      Bolt A, B, C
      11 N*m  { 110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf }
      Bolt D
      9.6 N*m  { 98 kgf*cm, 85 in.*lbf }

      Note

      • When installing the transmission valve body, be careful not to allow the transmission revolution sensor and automatic transaxle to interfere with each other.

      • First, temporarily tighten the bolts marked (*a) in the illustration because they are positioning bolts.

  4. INSTALL VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSEMBLY

    1. Coat a new O-ring with ATF.

    2. Install the O-ring onto the valve body oil strainer.

      Note

      Ensure that the O-ring is not twisted.

    3. Install the valve body oil strainer onto the transmission valve body with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      9.6 N*m  { 98 kgf*cm, 85 in.*lbf }
  5. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL CLEANER MAGNET

      *1 Transmission Oil Cleaner Magnet

      Install the 2 transmission oil cleaner magnets onto the automatic transaxle oil pan as shown in the illustration.

  6. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN GASKET

    1. Install a new automatic transaxle oil pan gasket onto the automatic transaxle oil pan.

  7. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. A019KTJ

      Install the automatic transaxle oil pan with the automatic transaxle oil pan gasket onto the automatic transaxle with the 17 bolts.

      Torque:
      7.5 N*m  { 76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf }

      Note

      Completely remove any oil or grease from the contact surface of the automatic transaxle and automatic transaxle oil pan with the automatic transaxle oil pan gasket before installation.

    2. A019P6V

      Clean and degrease the 2 bolts and the installation hole in the automatic transaxle.

    3. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads on the ends of the 2 bolts.

      Adhesive
      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1344, Three Bond 1344 or equivalent
    4. Install the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      7.0 N*m  { 71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf }
  8. INSTALL TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY

    1. A019MQA

      Engage the splines of the input shaft and turbine runner.

    2. A019KBH

      Engage the splines of the stator shaft and the stator while turning the torque converter assembly.

      Tech Tips

      If the stator shaft splines are difficult to engage with the stator splines, move the torque converter assembly back approximately 10 mm (0.393 in.) and engage the splines while rotating the torque converter assembly.

    3. A019LOJ

      Turn the torque converter assembly to engage the key of the oil pump drive gear into the slot on the torque converter assembly.

      *a Transaxle Contact Surface
      *b Torque Converter Assembly Contact Surface

      Using a vernier caliper and a straightedge, measure dimension A between the transaxle contact surface of the engine (*a) and the torque converter assembly contact surfaces of the drive plate (*b). [#1]

    5. A019OLFE02

      Using a vernier caliper and a straightedge, measure dimension B shown in the illustration and check that dimension B is greater than dimension A, which was measured in step [#1].

      Standard
      B = A + 1 mm (0.0394 in.) or more

      Note

      • Make sure to deduct the thickness of the straightedge.

      • If the transaxle is installed to the engine with the torque converter assembly not sufficiently inserted, the torque converter assembly may be damaged.
