SFI SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P2004, P2006

DTC Code DTC Name
P2004 Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open (Bank 1)
P2006 Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1)

DESCRIPTION

The tumble control valve is built into the intake manifold. The tumble control valve is composed of a position sensor and a DC motor. The DC motor opens and closes the tumble control valve in response to signals from the ECM. The position sensor detects the opening angle of the tumble control valve.

When the tumble control valve is closed, the intake air tumble flow intensifies and negative pressure is generated between the tumble control valve and intake valve which atomizes the fuel. Combustion is enhanced and exhaust gas emissions are reduced at low temperatures.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area

P2004

(Stuck open)

When the tumble control valve opening angle is 17 deg or more after requesting the tumble control valve to fully close (2 trip detection logic).
  • DC Motor for tumble control valve circuit

  • DC Motor for tumble control valve

  • Tumble control valve position sensor

  • Tumble control valve

  • ECM

P2006

(Stuck closed)

When the tumble control valve opening angle is less than 35 deg after requesting the tumble control valve to fully open (2 trip detection logic).

Tech Tips

After confirming DTCs P2004 and/or P2006, use the intelligent tester to confirm the Intake Air Control Position while performing Control the IAC Duty Ratio of the Active Test.

Reference (Normal Condition)
Control the IAC Duty Ratio operation Intake Air Control Position
100% Approximately 70 deg
0% Approximately 70 deg
-100% Approximately 2 deg

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2004 OR P2006)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / DTC.

    5. Read the DTCs.

      DTC P2004 or P2006 is output A
P2004 or P2006 and other DTCs are output B

      Tech Tips

If any DTCs other than P2004 or P2006 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ACTUATOR)

    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the intake air control valve actuator connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D44-3 (IA1-) - b4-4 (M-) Always Below 1 Ω
      D44-4 (IA1+) - b4-5 (M+) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D44-3 (IA1-) or b4-4 (M-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D44-4 (IA1+) or b4-5 (M+) - body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    5. Reconnect the intake air control valve actuator connector.

  5. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P2004 OR P2006)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the tester on.

    4. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    5. Turn the engine switch off.

    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.

    7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / Coolant Temp.

      Tech Tips

      • Check DTC P2004 at a coolant temperature of 30°C (86°F) or less.

      • Check DTC P2006 at a coolant temperature of 80°C (176°F) or higher.

    8. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

    9. Turn the engine switch on (IG), wait approximately 10 seconds, and then turn the engine switch off. Repeat this procedure 3 times.

    10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / DTC.

    11. Read the pending DTCs.
