PROCEDURE
INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
| *1 | Guide |
| *2 | Pin |
Align the 2 pins and 2 guides, and engage the 6 claws to install the spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering sensor.
Note
Do not rotate the steering sensor until the spiral cable has been attached to it.
ALIGN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD
INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
Note
Do not replace the spiral cable sub-assembly with the battery connected and the ignition switch ON.
Do not rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly without the steering wheel with the battery connected and the ignition switch ON.
Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.
Check that the ignition switch is off.
Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
Note
The power window system utilizes a mechanism that the door glass moves down slightly when the door is opened, and that the glass moves up when closing the door in order to prevent the door molding from being damaged. When the battery negative (-) terminal needs to be disconnected for servicing, fully open the driver and passenger door glasses in advance.
Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
Set the turn signal switch to the neutral position.
Note
If it is not in the neutral position, the turn signal switch pin may snap.
Engage the 3 claws to install the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
Connect the each connector.

INSPECT AND ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
Note
Do not adjust the spiral cable sub-assembly with the battery connected and the ignition switch ON.
| *1 | Matching Mark |
| *2 | Colored Part |
Check if the spiral cable sub-assembly is centered.
Tech Tips
When the spiral cable is attached in a central position, it will align with the matching mark, allowing the colored area indicated in the illustration to be checked.
If the spiral cable sub-assembly is not centered, center it.
Note
Do not turn the spiral cable sub-assembly using the airbag wire harness.
Rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly counterclockwise slowly by hand until it stops.
| *1 | Matching Mark |
| *2 | Colored Part |
Rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to the position where the matching mark is matched.
Tech Tips
The spiral cable sub-assembly will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.
When centering is not possible, there may be an open circuit in the spiral cable. Replace the spiral cable and steering sensor with new ones.
