STEERING PAD REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

1. PRECAUTION

   CAUTION:

   Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing. Click here

   Note

   After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

   CAUTION:

   Wait at least 60 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

   Note

   The power window system utilizes a mechanism that the door glass moves down slightly when the door is opened, and that the glass moves up when closing the door in order to prevent the door molding from being damaged. When the battery negative (-) terminal needs to be disconnected for servicing, fully open the driver and passenger door glasses in advance.

3. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY

   CAUTION:

   When storing the horn button assembly, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.

   
   

   1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

   2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 60 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      Note

      The power window system utilizes a mechanism that the door glass moves down slightly when the door is opened, and that the glass moves up when closing the door in order to prevent the door molding from being damaged.       *1	Protective Tape

      Using a screwdriver wrapped with protective tape, remove the No. 1 and No. 2 lower steering wheel covers.

      *1	Torsion Spring

      Using a screwdriver, push in the 3 torsion springs to disengage the 3 pins.

      Note

      Do not drop the horn button assembly.

   5. Pull out the horn button assembly from the steering wheel assembly and support the horn button assembly with one hand.

      Note

      When removing the horn button assembly, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

   6. for Dual Airbag System

         *3	Horn Connector
         *4	Airbag Connector Lock

         Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the 2 airbag connector locks.

      2. Disconnect the 2 airbag connectors to remove the horn button assembly.

         Note

         When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

      3. Disconnect the horn connector from the horn button assembly.

   7. for Single Airbag System

         Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the airbag connector lock.

      2. Disconnect the airbag connector to remove the horn button assembly.

         Note

         When disconnecting airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

      3. Disconnect the horn connector from the horn button assembly.
