LUBRICATION SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK ENGINE OIL QUALITY


    1. Check the oil for deterioration, water contamination, discoloring or thinning.

      If the quality is visibly poor, replace the oil and oil filter element.

  2. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL


    1. Park the vehicle in a level place.

    2. With the engine turned off, check that the engine oil level is between the full level and low level marks.

      If low, check for leakage and add oil up to the full level mark.

      Note

      Do not add engine oil above the full level mark.

      Tech Tips


      • Check the oil level before the engine is started, or 5 minutes or more after the engine has been stopped (after engine warming).

      • Check both sides of the dipstick and use the value obtained from the lower side oil level.

  3. CHECK OIL PRESSURE


    1. Remove the oil pressure switch assembly Click here.

      Install the oil pressure gauge with adapter.

    3. Install the air cleaner assembly Click here.

    4. Warm up the engine.

    5. Check the oil pressure under the following conditions.

      Specification Oil Pressure
      Item Engine Oil Temperature Oil Pressure
      Idle 80°C (176°F)

      50 kPa (0.5 kgf/cm2, 7.3 psi) or more

      6000 rpm

      500 kPa (5.1 kgf/cm2, 73 psi) or more

    6. Remove the air cleaner assembly Click here.

    7. Remove the oil pressure gauge with adapter.

    8. Install the oil pressure switch assembly Click here.

    9. Inspect for engine oil leaks.
