REAR BRAKE INSPECTION

  1. INSPECT BRAKE CYLINDER AND PISTON

    1. Check the cylinder bore and piston for rust and scoring.

If necessary, replace the disc brake cylinder and piston.

  2. INSPECT PAD LINING THICKNESS

    1. Using a ruler, measure the pad lining thickness.

      Standard thickness
      12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
      Minimum thickness
      1.0 mm (0.0394 in.)

If the pad lining thickness is less than the minimum thickness, replace the brake pads with a disc brake pad kit.

      Tech Tips

Be sure to check the wear of the rear disc after replacing the brake pads with new ones.

  3. INSPECT REAR DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE

    1. Make sure that the rear disc brake pad support plates have sufficient rebound, no deformation, cracks or wear, and that all rust and dirt is removed.

If necessary, replace the rear disc brake pad support plates.

  4. INSPECT DISC THICKNESS

    1. A01FUTI

Using a micrometer, measure the disc thickness.

      Standard thickness
      Item Specified Condition
      for Type A: 18.0 mm (0.709 in.)
      for Type B: 22.0 mm (0.866 in.)
      Minimum thickness
      Item Specified Condition
      for Type A: 16.5 mm (0.650 in.)
      for Type B: 20.5 mm (0.807 in.)

If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the rear disc.

  5. INSPECT DISC RUNOUT

    1. Inspect the rear axle hub bearing looseness Click here and rear axle hub runout Click here.

    2. Install the disc with the 5 hub nuts.

      Torque:
      103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
    3. A01FVJ8

Using a dial indicator, measure the disc runout 10 mm (0.394 in.) away from the outre edge of the rear disc.

      Maximum disc runout
      0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)

      Note

Keep the magnet of the dial indicator away from the axle hub and speed sensor.

If the runout is more than the maximum, change the installation position of the disc to minimize runout.

If the runout is more than the maximum even when the installation position is changed, grind the disc.

If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the rear disc.

    4. Remove the 5 hub nuts and rear disc.
