BRAKE STROKE SIMULATOR CYLINDER ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

Note

A DTC may be stored during the inspection procedure. Be sure to clear the DTCs and check that no DTCs are output after the inspection is finished.


  1. PRECAUTION

    Tech Tips


    • When the front brakes on vehicles with a 2AR-FSE engine are 17 inch front disc brakes, there are 3 possible combinations of front and rear brake pads.

    • Refer to the following illustration and chart the 3 combinations.

  2. CHECK BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER


    1. Check battery voltage.

      Standard Voltage
      11 to 14 V (while the power switch off)
    2. Connect the GTS and set a pedal effort gauge.


      1. Set a pedal effort gauge.

      2. With the shift lever in P, and apply the parking brake.

      3. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      4. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

      5. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    3. Check operation without the brake booster.


      1. Check and adjust brake pedal Click here.

      2. Enter the following menus to prohibit brake control: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRC / Utility / ECB (Electronically Controlled Brake system) Utility / ECB (Electronically Controlled Brake system) Invalid.

      3. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRC / Data List "Master Cylinder Sensor", "Master Cylinder Sensor 2", "Stroke Sensor" and "Stroke Sensor 2".

      4. Check the value output from "Master Cylinder Sensor", "Master Cylinder Sensor 2", "Stroke Sensor" and "Stroke Sensor 2"by depressing the brake pedal.

        Tech Tips

        Check the performance of the master cylinder by comparing the output values from the master cylinder sensor and stroke sensor. If there is a problem, determine the state of the master cylinder by using these results together with the results from inspecting the actuator and stroke sensor.

      5. Finish the brake control prohibition on the GTS.

  3. CHECK STROKE SIMULATOR SYSTEM


    1. Check battery voltage.

      Standard Voltage
      11 to 14 V (while the power switch off)

        Tech Tips

        Check the performance of the master cylinder by comparing the output values from the master cylinder sensor and stroke sensor. If there is a problem, determine the state of the master cylinder by using these results together with the results from inspecting the actuator and stroke sensor.

      5. Finish the brake control prohibition on the GTS.

    4. Check operation with the brake booster.


      1. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

      2. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRC / Data List "Stroke Sensor" and "Stroke Sensor 2".

      3. Depress the brake pedal 4 or 5 times.

      4. Check the value output from "Stroke Sensor" and "Stroke Sensor 2" by depressing the brake pedal.
