REAR SEAT OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY DISPOSAL

Tech Tips

When scrapping vehicles equipped with a seat belt pretensioner or disposing of a rear seat outer belt (with a seat belt pretensioner), always deploy the seat belt pretensioner first in accordance with the procedures described below. If any abnormality occurs during deployment of the seat belt pretensioner, contact the Service Dept. of the distributor.


  1. DISPOSE OF REAR SEAT 3 POINT TYPE OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY (When Installed in Vehicle)

    CAUTION:


    • Never dispose of a rear seat outer belt assembly with a pretensioner that has not been deployed.

    • The seat belt pretensioner produces an exploding sound when it deploys, so perform the operation outdoors where it will not disturb local residents.

    • When deploying a rear seat outer belt (with a seat belt pretensioner), perform the operation at least 10 m (33 ft.) away from the rear seat outer belt.

    • Use gloves and safety glasses when handling a rear seat belt with a deployed pretensioner.

    • Always wash your hands with water after completing the operation.

    • Do not apply water, etc. to a rear seat outer belt with a deployed pretensioner.

    • When deploying the seat belt pretensioner, always use the specified SST (SRS airbag deployment tool). Perform the operation in a place away from electrical interference.

    • Be sure to follow the procedure listed below when deploying the seat belt pretensioner.

    Tech Tips

    Prepare a auxiliary battery as the power source to deploy the seat belt pretensioner.

      CAUTION:

      When deploying the seat belt pretensioner, always use the specified SST.

        Connect the red clip of SST to the auxiliary battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip to the auxiliary battery negative (-) terminal.

        Tech Tips

        At this time, do not connect the yellow connector that will later be connected to the seat belt pretensioner.

        Press the SST deployment switch, and check that the LED of the SST deployment switch lights up.

        CAUTION:

        If the LED is lit when the deployment switch is not pressed, SST may be malfunctioning. Therefore, do not use SST.

    2. A01FTOCE02

      Connect SST.


      1. Connect 2 SST, and then connect them to the rear seat outer belt pretensioner.

        Note

        To avoid damaging the SST connector and wire harness, do not lock the secondary lock of the pretensioner connector.

        Move SST at least 10 m (33 ft.) away from the front of the vehicle.

      3. Close all the doors and windows of the vehicle.

        Note

        Do not damage the SST wire harness.

    3. Deploy the rear seat outer belt pretensioner.


      1. Confirm that no one is inside the vehicle or within a 10 m (33 ft.) radius of the vehicle.

      2. Connect the red clip of SST to the auxiliary battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip to the negative (-) terminal.

      3. Press the SST deployment switch and deploy the rear seat outer belt pretensioner.

        Tech Tips

        The seat belt pretensioner will deploy at the same time as the LED of SST illuminates.

    4. A01FV4L

      Dispose of the rear seat 3 point type outer belt assembly.


      1. Remove the rear seat 3 point type outer belt assembly and SST.

      2. Place the outer belt in a plastic bag, tie the end tightly and dispose of it in the same way as other general parts.

        CAUTION:


        • The outer belt becomes very hot when the rear seat outer belt pretensioner is deployed, so leave it untouched for at least 30 minutes after it has been deployed.

        • Use gloves and safety glasses when handling an outer belt with a pretensioner that has been deployed.

        • Always wash your hands with water after completing the operation.

        • Do not apply water, etc. to a rear seat 3 point type outer belt assembly with a pretensioner that has been deployed.

        Tech Tips

        When scrapping a vehicle, deploy the rear seat outer belt pretensioners, and then scrap the vehicle with the deployed outer belt installed.

  2. DISPOSE OF REAR SEAT 3 POINT TYPE OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY (When not Installed in Vehicle)

    • Never dispose of a rear seat outer belt assembly with a pretensioner that has not been deployed.

      Wind the seat belt webbing with the retractor.

    4. When the seat belt webbing is sufficiently wound, cut the seat belt webbing approximately 100 mm (3.94 in.) from the retractor, as shown in the illustration.

      Tech Tips

      The retractor resistance increases in correlation with how much the seat belt webbing is wound.

    5. Connect SST.

        Connect 2 SST, and then connect them to the rear seat outer belt pretensioner.

        Note

        To avoid damaging the SST connector and wire harness, do not lock the secondary lock of the pretensioner connector.

        Place the outer belt on the ground and cover it with a tire and wheel assembly.

        • Position the rear seat outer belt assembly as shown in the illustration.

        • Use a scrap tire and wheel assembly when disposing of a seat belt pretensioner.

      3. Position and hold SST at least 10 m (33 ft.) away from the wheel.

        Note

        Do not damage the SST wire harness.

      Deploy the rear seat outer belt pretensioner.


      1. Check that no one is within a 10 m (33 ft.) radius of the wheel.

      2. Connect the red clip of SST to the auxiliary battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip to the auxiliary battery negative (-) terminal.

      3. Press the SST deployment switch and deploy the rear seat outer belt pretensioner.

        Tech Tips

        The seat belt pretensioner will deploy at the same time as the LED of SST illuminates.

      1. Remove the wheel and SST.

      2. Place the outer belt in a plastic bag, tie the end tightly and dispose of it in the same way as other general parts.
