DESCRIPTION
If the power management control ECU detects that the engine or transmission gear has seized, the power management control ECU will perform fail-safe control. Also, if a substance or object is preventing the engine or transmission internal components from rotating, the power management control ECU will perform fail-safe control.
| DTC No. | INF Code | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area |
|---|---|---|---|
| P0A0F | 238 | Engine does not start even though it is being cranked (transmission input malfunction [engine system]) |
|
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
Tech Tips
If this DTC is output, the engine or transmission gear may be seized. Be sure to check the level of the engine oil, automatic transmission fluid (ATF) and coolant before inspection.
PROCEDURE
CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the power switch on (IG).
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
Check if DTCs are output.

CHECK CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REVOLUTION (SHIFT LEVER IN P)
Check that the shift lever is in P.
Lift up the vehicle.
Turn the crankshaft pulley using hand tools to check if the crankshaft can rotate smoothly.
CAUTION:
Do not turn the power switch on (READY) while performing this inspection. Be sure to turn the power switch off before performing this inspection to prevent the engine from starting.
Note
Engine compression causes resistance when turning the crankshaft pulley. Check if the crankshaft rotates smoothly (or if it is locked) by manually applying sufficient torque to turn the crankshaft pulley. The torque required to turn the crankshaft pulley should be the same as for a known good vehicle of the same type.
| OK |

| The crankshaft rotates smoothly. |
Lower the vehicle.

CLEAR DTC
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the power switch on (IG).
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.
Turn the power switch off.

CHECK ENGINE RACING
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the power switch on (READY).
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Generator (MG1) Rev, Engine Revolution.
Read the Data List.
While the READY indicator is on, fully depress the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds.
| OK |
|---|
| The engine revs up. |
Tech Tips
If the engine does not rev up and the reading on the GTS shows DTC P3147-239 (hybrid vehicle transmission input malfunction [shaft damaged]), or if MG1 turns but the engine does not crank, replace the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly.
Refer to the graph for Data List confirmation of "Generator (MG1) Rev" and "Engine Revolution".
| Data List | Engine Speed | Generator (MG1) Rev |
|---|---|---|
| Reference Value | Approximately 900 rpm | Approximately 3000 rpm |
| Approximately 1500 rpm | Approximately 5000 rpm |

INSPECT ENGINE SPEED
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the power switch on (READY).
Move the shift lever to D.
While driving at a vehicle speed of more than 6 mph (10 km/h), fully depress the accelerator pedal to raise the engine speed.
Note
Perform this test only in an appropriate safe location, in accordance with all local laws.
| OK |
|---|
| Engine speed increases smoothly. |
Tech Tips
If the engine over-revs or the reading on the GTS shows DTC P3147-241 (hybrid vehicle transmission input malfunction [input system lock]), replace the transmission input damper cover assembly.
Turn the power switch off.
