  1. REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID


    1. Lift the vehicle. [*1]

      Note

      Set the vehicle on a lift so that the vehicle is kept level when it is lifted up (make sure that the tilt angle from the front to rear of the vehicle is within +/- 1°).

    2. Remove the front suspension member brace.

      Click here

    3. Remove the No. 2 engine under cover.

      Click here

    4. Remove the transmission case cover.

      Click here

    5. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF. [*2]

    6. Temporarily install the gasket and drain plug. [*3]

      Tech Tips

      Reuse the old gasket. The drain plug will be removed again to adjust the fluid level.

      Remove the refill plug and overflow plug. [*4]

      Add fluid to the refill hole until it flows out of the overflow plug hole. [*5]

      Note

      Use Toyota Genuine ATF WS.

    9. Wait until the fluid flow slows and only drops come out. [*6]

    10. Temporarily install the gasket and overflow plug. [*7]

      Tech Tips

      Reuse the old gasket. The overflow plug will be removed again to adjust the fluid level.

    11. Add fluid to the refill hole using the amount of fluid specified for removal and installation of the oil pan. [*8]

      Tech Tips

      Specified amount of fluid is 1.4 liters (1.5 US qts, 1.2 Imp. qts).

    12. Temporarily install the gasket and refill plug to avoid fluid spillage. [*9]

      Tech Tips

      Reuse the old gasket. The plug will be removed again to adjust the fluid level.

    13. Lower the vehicle. [*10]

    14. Start the engine. [*11]

    15. Slowly move the shift lever from P to S, and then back to P. [*12]

    16. Allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds to warm it up. [*13]

    17. Turn the engine switch off. [*14]

    18. Repeat steps [*1] to [*14].

    19. Repeat steps [*1] to [*2].

    20. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }

    21. Repeat steps [*4] to [*10].

    22. Adjust the fluid level.

      Click here

    23. Install a new gasket and the overflow plug.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }

    24. Install the refill plug with a new O-ring.

      Torque:
      39 N*m  { 400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf }

    25. Install the transmission case cover.

    26. Install the No. 2 engine under cover.

      Click here

    27. Install the front suspension member brace.

      Click here

    28. Lower the vehicle.

    29. Operation complete.
