REAR BUMPER REASSEMBLY

  1. INSTALL REAR BUMPER PROTECTOR

    Tech Tips


    • Use the same procedure for both rear bumper protectors.

    • When installing the rear bumper protector, heat the rear bumper cover using a heat light.

    Standard
    Item Temperature
    Rear Bumper Cover 20 to 30°C (68 to 86°F)

    Note

    Do not heat the rear bumper cover excessively.


    1. When using a new rear bumper cover:


      1. Clean the surface of a new rear bumper cover.

      2. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover surface.

    2. When reusing the rear bumper cover:


      1. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover surface.

      2. Remove the double-sided tape from the rear bumper cover.

      3. Wipe off any tape adhesive residue with cleaner.

      Install a new rear bumper protector.


      1. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover.

      2. Remove the peeling paper from the face of the rear bumper protector.

        Tech Tips

        After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

    4. Install the rear bumper protector.

      Tech Tips

      Press the rear bumper protector firmly to install it.

  2. INSTALL REFLEX REFLECTOR ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Attach the claw to install the reflex reflector.

    2. Install the screw.

  3. INSTALL REFLEX REFLECTOR ASSEMBLY RH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  4. INSTALL REAR BUMPER PROTECTOR LH

    Tech Tips

    When installing the rear bumper protector, heat the rear bumper cover using a heat light.

    Standard

    Note

    Do not heat the rear bumper cover excessively.


    1. When using a new rear bumper cover:


      1. Clean the surface of a new rear bumper cover.

      2. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover surface.

    2. When reusing the rear bumper cover:


      1. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover surface.

      2. Remove the double-sided tape from the rear bumper cover.

      3. Wipe off any tape adhesive residue with cleaner.

      Install a new rear bumper protector.


      1. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover.

      3. Align the rear bumper protector with the mark-off line of the rear bumper cover.

  5. INSTALL REAR BUMPER PAD LH

    Tech Tips

    When installing the rear bumper pad, heat the rear bumper cover using a heat light.

    Rear Bumper Cover 20 to 30°C (68 to 86°F)

    Note

    Do not heat the rear bumper cover excessively.


    1. When using a new rear bumper cover:


      1. Clean the surface of a new rear bumper cover.

      2. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover surface.

    2. When reusing the rear bumper cover:


      1. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover surface.

      2. Remove the double-sided tape from the rear bumper cover.

      3. Wipe off any tape adhesive residue with cleaner.

      Install a new rear bumper pad.


      1. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover.

      2. Remove the peeling paper from the face of the rear bumper pad.

        Tech Tips

        After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

      3. Align the rear bumper pad with the mark-off line of the rear bumper cover.

        Tech Tips

        Press the rear bumper pad firmly to install it.

  6. INSTALL REAR BUMPER CENTER EXTENSION SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Attach the 2 guides to install the rear bumper center extension.

    2. Install the 6 clips and 10 retainers.

  7. INSTALL REAR BUMPER PLATE RH


    1. Attach the 2 claws to install the rear bumper plate.

  8. INSTALL REAR BUMPER EXTENSION LH


    1. Install the rear bumper extension with 2 new grommets and then install the 2 screws.

    2. Install the 2 clips.

  9. INSTALL REAR BUMPER EXTENSION RH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  10. INSTALL ULTRASONIC SENSOR CLIP (w/ LEXUS Parking Assist-sensor System)

      Attach the claw to install the ultrasonic sensor clip to the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor.

      Tech Tips


      • The illustration shows the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor assembly for the LH corner and back sensor LH and RH. The position of the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor clip for the RH corner is on the opposite side.

      • Use the same procedure for all No. 1 ultrasonic sensor clips.

  11. INSTALL NO. 1 ULTRASONIC SENSOR RETAINER (w/ LEXUS Parking Assist-sensor System)

    Tech Tips


    • Perform this step only when necessary.

    • If a No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer has been removed, replace it with a new one. Install the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor with a new No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer as a set to the rear bumper assembly.

    • Use the same procedure for all No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainers.

      Attach the 2 claws and install 2 No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainers to the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor.

    2. Clean the rear bumper cover surface.


      1. Remove the double-sided tape from the rear bumper cover.

      2. Wipe off any tape adhesive residue with cleaner.

      Using a brush or felt, apply primer or equivalent to the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer installation area.

      Note


      • Use a clean brush or felt.

      • Do not touch the rear bumper assembly until the primer has dried.

    4. Peel off the release paper from the 2 No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainers.

      Align the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer with No. 1 ultrasonic sensor with the mark on the rear bumper cover and install it as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      The double sided tape of a No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer will deteriorate if it is detached. Make sure to replace the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer with a new one when reattachment is necessary.

      Tech Tips


      • Align the connector with the protrusion of the mark and connect it.

      • Press on the areas indicated by the arrows in the illustration with a force of 30 N (3.0 kgf) for 3 seconds and install the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer firmly so that there is no clearance between the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer and rear bumper cover.

  12. INSTALL NO. 1 ULTRASONIC SENSOR (w/ LEXUS Parking Assist-sensor System)

    Tech Tips


    • Perform this step only when necessary.

    • If a No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer has been removed, replace it with a new one. Install the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor with a new No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainer as a set to the rear bumper assembly.

    • Use the same procedure for all No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainers.

      Attach the 2 claws and install 2 No. 1 ultrasonic sensor retainers to the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor.

    2. Clean the rear bumper cover surface.


      1. Remove the double-sided tape from the rear bumper cover.

  13. INSTALL NO. 3 LUGGAGE ROOM WIRE (w/ LEXUS Parking Assist-sensor System)


    1. Attach the 4 clamps to install the No. 3 luggage room wire.

    2. Connect the 4 connectors.
