AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACEMENT


  1. REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID


    1. Lift the vehicle. [*1]

      Note

      Set the vehicle on a lift so that the vehicle is kept level when it is lifted up (make sure that the tilt angle from the front to rear of the vehicle is within +/-1°).

      Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the fluid. [*2]

    3. Temporarily install the gasket and drain plug. [*3]

      Tech Tips

      Reuse the old gasket. The drain plug will be removed again to adjust the fluid level.

      Remove the refill plug and O-ring. [*4]

    5. Using a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the overflow plug and gasket. [*5]

    6. Add fluid to the refill hole until it flows out of the overflow plug hole. [*6]

      Note


      • Use Toyota Genuine ATF WS.

      • Be sure to add automatic transmission fluid slowly. If fluid is added quickly, the fluid may hit internal parts and bounce back, resulting in fluid coming out of the refill hole.

      Wait until the fluid flow slows and only drops come out. [*7]

    8. Using a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench, temporarily install the overflow plug and gasket. [*8]

      Tech Tips

      Reuse the old gasket. The overflow plug will be removed again to adjust the fluid level.

    9. Add fluid to the refill hole using the amount of fluid specified for removal and installation of the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly. [*9]

      Specified Amount of Fluid
      3.2 liters (3.4 US qts, 2.8 Imp. qts)

      Tech Tips

      If the specified amount of automatic transmission fluid cannot be added, perform steps [*10] to [*15].

    10. Temporarily install the O-ring and refill plug to avoid fluid spillage. [*10]

      Tech Tips

      Reuse the old O-ring. The plug will be removed again to adjust the fluid level.

    11. Lower the vehicle. [*11]

    12. Start the engine. [*12]

    13. Slowly move the shift lever from P to S, and then back to P. [*13]

    14. Allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds to warm it up. [*14]

    15. Turn the engine switch off. [*15]

    16. Repeat steps [*1] to [*15].

    17. Repeat steps [*1] to [*2].

    18. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }
    19. Repeat steps [*4] to [*11].

    20. Adjust the fluid level Click here.

    21. Install a new gasket and the overflow plug.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }
    22. Coat a new O-ring with ATF, and install it to the refill plug.

    23. Install the refill plug.

      Torque:
      39 N*m  { 400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf }
    24. Lower the vehicle.

    25. Operation complete.
