PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH INSTALLATION


  1. INSTALL PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY


    1. Move the shift lever to N.

      Align the protrusions of the park/neutral position switch assembly.

    3. Install the park/neutral position switch assembly to the manual valve lever shaft sub-assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      5.4 N*m  { 55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf }

      Note


      • Before installing the park/neutral position switch assembly, remove any dirt or rust on the installation portion of the manual valve lever shaft sub-assembly. Be sure to install the switch straight along the shaft while being careful not to deform the plate spring that supports the shaft. If the plate spring is deformed, the park/neutral switch cannot be reinstalled correctly.

      • After installing the park/neutral position switch assembly, confirm that the 2 protrusions on the switch are aligned.

    4. Install the transmission control shaft lever to the manual valve lever shaft sub-assembly with the nut and washer.

      Torque:
      13 N*m  { 130 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf }

    5. Connect the connector to the park/neutral position switch assembly.

    6. Connect the transmission control cable to the transmission control cable bracket with a new clip.

    7. Connect the transmission control cable to the transmission control shaft lever with the nut.

      Torque:
      13 N*m  { 130 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf }

    8. Connect the wire harness clamp.

  2. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Insert the projection of the air cleaner case sub-assembly to the hole of the No. 2 air cleaner bracket as shown in the illustration.

    2. Tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      5.0 N*m  { 51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf }

    3. Connect the wire harness clamp.

  3. INSTALL AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY

  4. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the air cleaner cap sub-assembly with the 2 clamps.

    2. Install the air cleaner hose with the hose clamp.

    3. Connect the ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover.

    4. Install the fuel vapor feed hose to the air cleaner hose.

    5. Connect the mass air flow meter connector and 2 wire harness clamps to the air cleaner cap sub-assembly.

    6. Connect the vacuum switching valve assembly to the air cleaner hose.

  5. INSTALL INLET AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the inlet air cleaner with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }

  6. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL


    1. Install the cool air intake duct seal with the 9 clips.

  7. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY OPERATION


    1. Apply the parking brake.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is in N or P, but does not start in any other position.

    4. Check that the back-up light comes on when the shift lever is moved to R, but the light does not operate in any other position. If the operation cannot be done as specified, check the park/neutral position switch assembly for continuity.

  8. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Fit the 3 retainers and install the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.

  9. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION


    1. When the shift lever is moved from P to R with the ignition switch ON and brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shift lever moves smoothly and correctly into the position.

    2. Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when the shift lever is moved from N to D and moves rearward when the shift lever is moved to R.

  10. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION


    1. Move the shift lever to N.

    2. Remove the console box assembly Click here.

      Disconnect the end of transmission control cable assembly from the lower shift lever assembly

      Slide the slider of the transmission control cable in the direction indicated by the arrow and pull the lock piece outward.

      Install the transmission control cable end to the shift lever assembly.

      Note


      • Check that the lock piece is pulled up.

      • Install the cable end all the way to the base of the pin.

    6. Push the lock piece into the adjuster case.

      Note


      • Check that the park/neutral position switch and the shift lever are in neutral.

      • Securely push in the lock piece until the slider lock is engaged.

    7. After adjusting the shift lever position, check the operation and function of the shift lever. If there is a problem, adjust the position again.
