  2. INSTALL DIFFERENTIAL GEAR LUBE APPLY TUBE

      Install the differential gear lube apply tube and No. 2 transaxle apply tube clamp to the transaxle housing with the bolt.

      Torque:
      9.8 N*m  { 100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf }

      Note

      Make sure to insert the tube to the stopper.

  3. INSTALL COUNTER DRIVE GEAR ANGULAR BALL BEARING

      Install a new snap ring to the transaxle case.

    2. A01EVMFE02

      Using SST and a press, install a new counter drive gear angular ball bearing outer race (rear side) to the transaxle case.

      • Ensure that the snap ring is securely installed.

      • Do not apply excessive pressure to the counter drive gear angular ball bearing outer race.

      Using SST and a press, install a new counter drive gear angular ball bearing outer race (front side) to the transaxle case.

      • Install the counter drive gear angular ball bearing outer race with a press while holding the counter drive gear angular ball bearing outer race with SST (09502-24010, 09523-36010).

    4. Install 2 new counter drive gear angular ball bearings to the transaxle case.

  4. INSTALL COUNTER DRIVE GEAR

      Using SST and a press, install a new counter drive gear angular ball bearing inner race (front side) to the counter drive gear.

  5. INSTALL 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE PISTON

      Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF.

    2. Install the 2 O-rings to the 1st and reverse brake piston.

    3. A01EYLCE01

      Coat the 1st and reverse brake piston with ATF, and install it to the transaxle case.

    4. A01EUNNE01

      Install the 1st and reverse brake return spring to the 1st and reverse brake piston.

    5. A01EU3UE01

      Using SST, a press and snap ring expander, press the 1st and reverse brake return spring and snap ring to the transaxle case.

      • Stop pressing when the spring seat is 1 to 2 mm (0.0394 to 0.0787 in.) below the snap ring groove to prevent the spring seat from being deformed.

      • Do not expand the snap ring excessively.

  6. INSTALL FRONT PLANETARY RING GEAR

      Using a screwdriver, install the front planetary ring gear and brake hub snap ring to the 2nd brake hub.

  7. INSTALL FRONT PLANETARY GEAR ASSEMBLY

      Using a vernier caliper, measure the distance between the 1st and reverse brake clutch disc surface and the contact surface of the 2nd brake cylinder and transaxle case (Dimension A).

    3. Select an appropriate flange so that the piston stroke will meet the specified value.

      1.02 to 1.21 mm (0.0402 to 0.0476 in.)

  12. INSTALL ONE-WAY CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

      Check the direction of the one-way clutch inner race.

    3. Apply MP grease to the thrust bearing.

      Install the thrust bearing to the rear planetary sun gear assembly.

  14. INSTALL 2ND BRAKE PISTON O-RING

      Coat 2 new 2nd brake piston O-rings with ATF and install them into the 2nd brake piston.

  15. INSTALL 2ND BRAKE PISTON

      Press the 2nd brake piston into the 2nd brake cylinder with your hands.

  16. INSTALL 2ND BRAKE PISTON RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Install the 2nd brake piston return spring sub-assembly to the 2nd brake piston.

    2. A01EYJ3E04

      Place SST on the 2nd brake piston return spring sub-assembly, and compress the 2nd brake piston return spring sub-assembly with a press.

    3. Using a screwdriver, install the snap ring.

      Note

      Be sure that the end gap of the snap ring is not aligned with the piston return spring claw.

  17. INSTALL 2ND BRAKE PISTON ASSEMBLY

      Install the 2nd brake piston assembly to the transaxle case.

      Using a screwdriver, install the snap ring to the transaxle case.

  18. INSTALL 2ND BRAKE CLUTCH DISC

      Install the 3 2nd brake clutch discs and 3 plates to the transaxle case.

    2. Temporarily install the snap ring.

      Using a vernier caliper, measure the distance between the 2nd brake clutch disc and snap ring surface.

    4. Select an appropriate flange so that the piston stroke will meet the specified value.

      0.62 to 0.91 mm (0.0244 to 0.0358 in.)

      Secure the snap ring so that its gap is visible through the groove of the transaxle case.

  19. INSTALL DIRECT CLUTCH RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Coat the direct clutch piston with ATF, and install it to the direct clutch drum.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the lip seal of the direct clutch piston.

    2. A01EZ2VE01

      Install the direct clutch return spring sub-assembly to the direct clutch drum.

    3. A01EWGEE01

      Coat the clutch balancer with ATF, and install it to the direct clutch drum.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the lip seal of the direct clutch balancer.

      Place SST on the clutch balancer and compress the return spring with a press.

    5. Using a snap ring expander, install the snap ring to the direct clutch drum.

      Note


      • Be sure that the end gap of the snap ring is not aligned with the clutch balancer claw.

      • Stop pressing when the spring seat is 1 to 2 mm (0.0394 to 0.0787 in.) below the snap ring groove to prevent the spring seat from being deformed.

      • Do not expand the snap ring excessively.

  20. INSTALL DIRECT MULTIPLE DISC CLUTCH DISC SNAP RING

      Install the 3 plates, 3 discs and flange.

      Using a screwdriver, install the direct multiple disc clutch disc snap ring.

      Tech Tips

      Tape the screwdriver before use.

    3. Check that the end gap of the direct multiple disc clutch disc snap ring is not aligned with any one of the cutouts.

  21. INSPECT PACK CLEARANCE OF DIRECT CLUTCH

      Install the direct clutch and needle roller bearing on the transaxle rear cover.

    2. Using a dial indicator, measure the direct clutch pack clearance while applying and releasing compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi).

      Standard pack clearance
      0.652 to 0.872 mm (0.0257 to 0.0343 in.)

      If the pack clearance is not as specified, inspect the discs, plates and flange.

      If the pack clearance is less than the minimum, the parts may have been assembled incorrectly. Check and reassemble them again.

      If the pack clearance is still not as specified, select another flange.

      There are 8 different thicknesses of flanges.

  22. INSPECT DIRECT MULTIPLE DISC CLUTCH DISC

      Inspect the clutch disc rotation.


      1. Check that the disc rotates when rotating the disc after inserting the rear planetary sun gear.

        Note

        Do not place the rear planetary sun gear in a vise.

  23. INSTALL DIRECT CLUTCH ASSEMBLY


    1. Apply MP grease to the bearing race.

      Install the bearing race to the direct clutch assembly.

      Note

      The disc in the direct clutch should completely align with the hub attached outside the rear planetary sun gear. Otherwise, the rear cover cannot be installed.

      Clean the connector part of the transaxle case and rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.

    5. As shown in the illustration, place a straightedge on the direct clutch drum and measure the distance between the transaxle case and the straightedge using a vernier caliper (Dimension B).

      Measure the 2 places of the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly as shown in the illustration and calculate dimension C using the following formula.

    7. Calculate the end play value using the following formula. Select a thrust bearing which satisfies the end play value and install it.

      0.198 to 0.936 mm (0.00800 to 0.03685 in.)

      Note

      Make sure that the colored race side is facing the direct clutch assembly.

  24. INSTALL O-RING


    1. Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install it to the transaxle case.

      Install 2 new O-rings to the transaxle case.

  25. INSTALL FRONT CLUTCH APPLY TUBE


    1. A01EX5HE01

      Install the apply pump clamp to the front clutch apply tube.

      Note

      Make sure to install the apply pump clamp to the front clutch apply tube before installing the front clutch apply tube to the transaxle case. This prevents the front clutch apply tube from being deformed or damaged.

  26. INSTALL BRAKE APPLY TUBE

      Install the apply pump clamp to the brake apply tube.

      Note

      Make sure to install the apply pump clamp to the brake apply tube before installing the brake apply tube to the transaxle case. This prevents the brake apply tube from being deformed or damaged.

    2. A01EYEME02

      Install the 2 apply tubes to the transaxle case with the bolt.

      Torque:
      5.4 N*m  { 55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf }

      Note

      Each tube should be securely inserted until it reaches the stopper.

  27. INSTALL NO. 1 TRANSAXLE CASE PLUG


    1. A01EXUK

      Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the 2 No. 1 transaxle case plugs.

    2. Install the 2 No. 1 transaxle case plugs to the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.

      Torque:
      7.4 N*m  { 75 kgf*cm, 65 in.*lbf }
  28. INSTALL REAR TRANSAXLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Using SST and a press, press in a new needle roller bearing.

      12.05 to 12.75 mm (0.4744 to 0.5020 in.)

      Note


      • Face the inscribed mark side of the bearing race up.

      • Repeat the press-fit until the specified value is obtained.

    2. Clean and degrease the screws and screw holes.

    3. Apply adhesive to the 2 screws.

      Using a T30 ''TORX'' socket, install the plate with the 2 screws.

      Torque:
      7.5 N*m  { 76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf }

      Install the 2 new outer rear clutch oil seal rings to the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.

      Remove any packing material and be careful not to get oil on the contacting surfaces of the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly or the transaxle case.

    7. Apply seal packing to the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.

    8. Coat the needle roller bearing with ATF.

    9. Clean and degrease the bolt holes.

    11. Install the 11 bolts.

      • Apply adhesive to the bolts and tighten them within 10 minutes of application.

      • Do not add ATF within 2 hours after installing the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.

      • Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after installing the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.

  29. INSTALL UNDERDRIVE CLUTCH DRUM OIL SEAL RING

      Install 2 new underdrive clutch drum oil seal rings to the transaxle case.

  30. INSTALL UNDERDRIVE BRAKE PISTON

      Wrap vinyl tape around SST 4.0 mm (0.157 in.) above the bottom end until the thickness of the wrapped tape is about 5.0 mm (0.197 in.).

      Using SST, a snap ring expander and press, press the underdrive brake return spring sub-assembly and install the snap ring to the transaxle case.

      Using a dial indicator, measure the underdrive brake piston stroke while applying and releasing compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi).

      Select an appropriate flange from the table below so that it will meet the specified value.

      Using a screwdriver, install the snap ring to the transaxle case.

  34. INSTALL UNDERDRIVE CLUTCH DRUM O-RING

      Coat a new underdrive clutch drum O-ring with ATF and install it to the underdrive clutch drum sub-assembly.

  35. INSTALL UNDERDRIVE CLUTCH PISTON SET


    1. A01EXISE01

      Coat the underdrive clutch piston with ATF, and install it to the underdrive clutch drum sub-assembly.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the O-ring.

    2. A01EVLPE01

      Install the speed sensor NC.


      1. Coat a new O-ring with ATF and install it to the speed sensor NC.

      2. Install the speed sensor NC to the transaxle case with a new bolt.

        Torque:
        8.8 N*m  { 90 kgf*cm, 78 in.*lbf }
    2. Install the speed sensor NT.


      1. Coat a new O-ring with ATF and install it to the speed sensor NT.

      2. Install the speed sensor NT to the transaxle case with the bolt.

        Torque:
        Precoated Bolt
        8.8 N*m  { 90 kgf*cm, 78 in.*lbf }
        Uncoated Bolt
        11 N*m  { 115 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf }

        Note

        If a precoated bolt has been used, replace with a new one.

  83. INSTALL OIL COOLER INLET TUBE UNION


    1. A01EW53

      Coat a new O-ring with ATF, and install it to the oil cooler inlet tube union.

    2. Install the oil cooler inlet tube union to the transaxle case.

      Torque:
      27 N*m  { 276 kgf*cm, 20 ft.*lbf }
  84. INSTALL OIL COOLER OUTLET TUBE UNION


    1. A01EUKK

      Coat a new O-ring with ATF, and install it to the oil cooler outlet tube union.

    2. Install the oil cooler outlet tube union to the transaxle case.

      Torque:
      27 N*m  { 276 kgf*cm, 20 ft.*lbf }
  85. INSTALL NO. 1 TRANSAXLE CASE PLUG


    1. A01EYRS

      Coat 4 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the 4 No. 1 transaxle case plugs.

    2. Install the 4 No. 1 transaxle case plugs to the transaxle case.

      Torque:
      7.4 N*m  { 75 kgf*cm, 65 in.*lbf }
    3. A01EWJP

      Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the 2 No. 1 transaxle case plugs.

    4. Install the 2 No. 1 transaxle case plugs to the transaxle housing.

      Torque:
      7.4 N*m  { 75 kgf*cm, 65 in.*lbf }
  86. INSTALL NO. 2 BREATHER PLUG


    1. Coat a new O-ring with ATF, and install it to the No. 2 breather plug.

    2. Install the No. 2 breather plug to the transaxle case.

  87. INSTALL NO. 1 BREATHER PLUG


    1. Install the No. 1 breather plug to the breather plug hose.

  88. INSTALL BREATHER PLUG HOSE


    1. Install the breather plug hose to the No. 2 breather plug.

  89. INSTALL PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

      Install the park/neutral position switch assembly onto the manual valve lever shaft and temporarily install the 2 adjusting bolts.

    2. Install a new lock plate and the lock nut.

      Torque:
      6.9 N*m  { 70 kgf*cm, 61 in.*lbf }
    3. A01EUOV

      Temporarily install the control shaft lever to the manual valve lever shaft.

    4. Turn the lever counterclockwise until it stops, and then turn it clockwise 2 notches.

    5. Remove the control shaft lever from the manual valve lever shaft.

      Align the nut stopper protrusion with the neutral basic line.

    7. Tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      5.4 N*m  { 55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf }

      Note

      After installing the park/neutral position switch assembly, confirm that the nut stopper protrusion and neutral basic line on the switch are aligned.

      Using a screwdriver, stake the lock nut with the lock plate.

    9. A01ETI7

      Install the control shaft lever, washer and nut to the manual valve lever shaft.

      Torque:
      13 N*m  { 133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf }
  90. INSTALL SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Coat a new O-ring with ATF, and install it to the speedometer driven hole cover sub-assembly.

    2. Install the speedometer driven hole cover sub-assembly with the bolt to the transaxle case.

      Torque:
      5.5 N*m  { 56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf }
