ENTRY AND START SYSTEM(for Start Function), Diagnostic DTC:B2286, B228A, P0335

DTC Code DTC Name
B2286 Runnable Signal Malfunction
B228A Engine Speed Signal Circuit
P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) receives an engine speed signal and information that indicates whether the engine is running or not. It receives the engine speed signal from the ECM via a direct line, and the information about whether the engine is running is received from the ECM via CAN. If the information sent using these 2 methods is inconsistent, this DTC will be stored.

Tech Tips

  • DTC B2286 is not stored for vehicles with stop and start system.

  • DTC B228A is stored only for vehicles with stop and start system.

  • When the battery cable is disconnected and reconnected, the power source returns to the mode it was in before the battery cable was disconnected.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area DTC Output Confirmation Operation
B2286 Mismatch between the engine speed signal from the direct line sent by the ECM and the engine speed signal sent via CAN communication (1-trip detection logic*).

  • SFI system (except 1ND-TV)

  • ECD system (for 1ND-TV)

  • Wire harness or connector

Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal. Wait 20 seconds or more with the engine switch off, and then start the engine. Make sure that the engine speed is 1000 rpm or more for 20 seconds or more after starting the engine.

  • Wire harness or connector

Wait for 10 seconds or more with the engine idling.

*: Only output while a malfunction is present and the engine switch is on (IG)

Vehicle Condition when Malfunction Detected Fail-safe Function when Malfunction Detected

When "P0335" is output, the engine cannot be stared or runs rough.

  • When a malfunction occurs in the direct line or CAN communication signal while a trip is not being performed, there is no effect on vehicle behavior.

  • When a malfunction occurs in the direct line or CAN communication signal while a trip is being performed, the engine cannot be started when the power source mode is on (IG). However, when the power source mode is not on (IG), the engine can be started.

  • When a malfunction occurs in the direct line or CAN communication signal while a trip is being performed, there is no fail-safe function.

  • When a malfunction occurs in the direct line or CAN communication signal while a trip is not being performed, the fail-safe function behaves as follows:

    • CAN communication is normal and the engine speed signal from the direct line is abnormal:

    • If the engine switch is pressed briefly, cranking is stopped based on the starter OFF permission flag received via CAN communication.

    • If the engine switch is pressed and held, cranking stops according to the engine speed signal sent via CAN communication.

    • If the engine switch is pressed briefly, cranking stops according to the engine speed signal from the direct line.

    • If the engine switch is pressed and held, cranking stops according to the engine speed signal from the direct line.

    • Both CAN communication and the engine speed signal from the direct line are abnormal:

    • If the engine switch is pressed briefly, cranking stops after 6 seconds elapse.

    • If the engine switch is pressed and held, cranking is maintained for a maximum of 30 seconds.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

  • When using the intelligent tester with the engine switch off, perform either of the following: 1) Turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less until communication between the intelligent tester and vehicle begins, or 2) connect the intelligent tester to the vehicle and select "MANUAL" from the initial screen on the intelligent tester, and then select "KEY REGIST" under Model Code.

  • The entry and start system uses multiplex communication. First perform the inspections in "How to Proceed with Troubleshooting" to confirm that there are no communication malfunctions before proceeding with troubleshooting Click here.

  • Inspect the fuses of circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

  • Before replacing the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly), refer to the Service Bulletin.

  • After performing repairs, perform the operation that fulfills the DTC output confirmation operation, and then confirm that no DTCs are output again.
