CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
Tech Tips
Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
The following procedure is for the LH side.
PROCEDURE
INSTALL STRUT MOUNTING BEARING
Using a brass bar and press, install the strut mounting bearing onto the front coil spring upper seat.
Note
The strut mounting bearing must be securely installed.
INSTALL FRONT COIL SPRING LOWER INSULATOR
| *a | Positioning Pin |
| *b | Hole |
Install the front coil spring lower insulator to the front shock absorber.
Note
Make sure that the positioning pin of the front coil spring lower insulator is inserted into the hole in the front shock absorber.
INSTALL FRONT COIL SPRING
For SST with stopper pins:
Secure SST in a vise.
| *a | Correct |
| *b | Incorrect |
| *c | Parallel |
| *d | Not Parallel |
Attach the hooks of each SST arm across the diameter of the front coil spring.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the hooks of the upper and lower arms are attached to the front coil spring so that the distance between the hooks is as large as possible.
Make sure that the arms of SST are parallel and attached to the front coil spring, and the number of front coil springs between the hooks on each side is the same.
Check that the claws of the hooks are securely attached to the front coil spring.
| *1 | Stopper Pin |
| *a | Correct |
| *b | Incorrect |
Install the stopper pins to the hooks of SST.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the stopper pins are installed securely.
Using SST, compress the coil spring.
CAUTION:
If the coil spring bends while using SST, stop immediately and reattach SST correctly.
Do not compress the coil spring to the point where the coils touch each other.
Do not use an impact wrench.
If a stopper pin touches the coil spring while using SST, remove the stopper pin and continue with the procedure. In this case, installing the coil spring stopper belt as shown in the illustration is recommended.
For SST without stopper pins:
Secure SST in a vise.
| *a | Correct |
| *b | Incorrect |
| *c | Parallel |
| *d | Not Parallel |
Attach the hooks of each SST arm across the diameter of the coil spring.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the hooks of the upper and lower arms are attached to the coil spring so that the distance between the hooks is as large as possible.
Make sure that the arms of SST are parallel and attached to the coil spring, and the number of coil springs between the hooks on each side is the same.
Check that the claws of the hooks are securely attached to the coil spring.
Using SST, compress the coil spring.
CAUTION:
If the coil spring bends while using SST, stop immediately and reattach SST correctly.
Do not compress the coil spring to the point where the coils touch each other.
Do not use an impact wrench.
Installing SST as shown in the illustration is recommended.
| *a | Lower End |
Install the front shock absorber assembly to the front coil spring.
Note
Install the front coil spring so that the end with the smaller diameter is facing upward.
Fit the lower end of the front coil spring into the gap of the absorber lower seat.
INSTALL FRONT COIL SPRING UPPER INSULATOR
Install the front coil spring upper insulator to the front shock absorber.
INSTALL FRONT SPRING BUMPER
| *a | Rib Portion |
| *b | Air Discharge Groove |
Install the front spring bumper onto the front coil spring upper seat with the air discharge groove of the front spring bumper and the rib portion of the front coil spring upper seat aligned.
Note
Securely insert the front spring bumper into the coil spring upper seat.
INSTALL FRONT COIL SPRING UPPER SEAT
| *a | Positioning Pin |
| *b | Hole |
Install the front coil spring upper seat with the strut mounting bearing and front spring bumper onto the front shock absorber.
Note
Make sure that the positioning pin of the front coil spring upper insulator is inserted into the hole in the front coil spring upper seat.
INSTALL FRONT SUPPORT TO FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER NUT
Provisionally tighten a new front support to front shock absorber nut.
Remove SST from the front coil spring.
Note
Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage SST.
| *1 | Long Socket Hexagon Wrench 6 mm |
| *a | Turn |
| *b | Hold |
Using SST and socket hexagon wrench 6 mm, fix the front shock absorber rod and tighten the front support to front shock absorber nut.
Tech Tips
This torque value is effective when SST is parallel to the torque wrench.
This torque value can be obtained by using a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.8 in.) and a SST with a fulcrum length of 40 mm (1.57 in.).
If using a torque wrench with a length that is not 300 mm (11.8 in.), calculate the torque specification for the torque wrench and SST based on the "without SST" torque specification Click here.
INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION SUPPORT SUB-ASSEMBLY
Install the front suspension support sub-assembly to the front shock absorber with coil spring.
