P0821 Gear Lever "X" Position Circuit

DESCRIPTION

Based on the signal from the transmission shift main switch, the TCM detects whether the shift lever position is in the E or M position. If the shift lever position switch is ON despite the shift lever position being N or R, the TCM sets the DTC.

  1. Shift lever position is in N or R.

  2. MSDW signal is ON.

  • Shift lock control unit assembly

  1. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY (TRANSMISSION SHIFT MAIN SWITCH)

      Shift Lock Control Unit Assembly (Transmission Shift Main Switch)

      Disconnect the F69 shift lock control unit connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      4 (MDSW) - 6 (E)

      Shift lever is in

      R, N or E

      		 10 kΩ or higher

      Shift lever is in

      M, + or -

      		 Below 1 Ω

    NG

    REPLACE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY Click here

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY - TCM)


    1. Disconnect the F68 TCM connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F68-10 (MDSW) - F69-4 (MDSW) Always Below 1 Ω
      F68-10 (MDSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND)


    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F69-6 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK

  4. REPLACE TCM
