DESCRIPTION

In case of driving the vehicle before performing calibration of the deceleration sensor 0 point it detects the diagnosis code.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P1589

The following condition continues (1 trip detection logic):

  • When the vehicle speed is 3 km/h or more and ABS communication is normal.

  • Deceleration sensor 0 point calibration incomplete for 5 seconds or more

  • The deceleration sensor 0 point calibration is performed.

  • Airbag sensor assembly (Yaw rate sensor)

  • Skid control ECU (Brake actuator assembly)

  • Engine stop and start ECU

  1. After troubleshooting, perform the following steps to recheck for DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If the battery terminal has been disconnected, the stop and start will be prohibited. In this case, drive the vehicle for 15 to 40 minutes to permit the stop and start operation.

    • Allow the engine to idle for 3 minutes after the engine warms up and check that the engine speed is within 50 rpm of the target idle speed.

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    3. Start the engine and warm it up.

    4. Drive the vehicle at 3 km/h (1.9 mph) or more for 5 seconds or more.

    5. Check that no DTCs are output Click here.

  2. Check if the Stop and Start system operates normally.

    1. Warm up the engine.

    2. Turn the air conditioning system off.

    3. Drive the vehicle at 7 km/h (4.3 mph) or more.

    4. Stop the vehicle with the shift lever in D and depressed the brake pedal.

    5. Check that the engine stops.

    6. Release the brake pedal and check that the engine restarts.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tech Tips

DTCs for the Stop and Start system are not cleared even if the malfunction has been repaired. After repairing the malfunction, be sure to clear the DTCs Click here.

PROCEDURE

  1. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (DECELERATION SENSOR 0 POINT CALIBRATION)

    Note

    • Stored system information cannot be overwritten unless it is cleared. Clear the stored information and then store new system information.

    • While obtaining the zero points, keep the vehicle stationary and do not vibrate, tilt, move, or shake it. (Do not start the engine.)

    • Be sure to perform this procedure on a level surface (with an inclination of less than 1 degree).

    1. Clear the zero point calibration data.

      1. Turn the ignition switch off.

      2. Check that the steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position.

      3. Check that the shift lever is in P.

      4. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      6. Turn the intelligent tester on.

      7. Select the engine stop and start ECU to clear the zero point calibration data using the intelligent tester. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Clear.

      8. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Perform zero point calibration of the deceleration sensor.

      1. Turn the ignition switch off.

      2. Check that the steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position.

      3. Check that the shift lever is in P.

      4. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration.

      7. After operation of the Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration, keep the vehicle stationary on a level surface for 5 seconds or more.

      8. Drive the vehicle and check if the stop and start cancel indicator light comes on or not.

        Tech Tips

When 0 point is obtained, DTP P1589 is deleted automatically.

      9. Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the intelligent tester.

      Note

When 0 point cannot be normally obtained, start from 0 point deletion again.
